It's called PRIMER.

A science fiction drama that was made on a shoestring for $7,000. It won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival in 2004.

The setup is very dry, conventional, and follows a linear structure. After that, well, you just have to see it.

The permutations are endless.

It's about two friends that inadvertantly create a time machine that they keep locked away in a storage facility. The machine only allows them to go back 12 hours. They start off using it to create wealth by burning up the stock market.

Then they start using the machine behind each others back with different agendas. The film is basically about trust and how it's related to what's at risk.

Looks like the OVERLAY of the year. Why does Hollywood keep tossing millions at people who deliver duds over and over? There are lots of talented people in the industry.

I doubt my rental place will have this, but I will take a look.

Thanks for the tip!
Jim

Well just my luck, I dont have showtime! :-(

I love to watch these "no-name" directors, who seem to wind up with kick ass movies!

I still will put Shade on my best films list, even though they put no money into promoting it and soon it will be a $3 DVD in the bargain bin.

It seems everyone in Hollywood wants to kiss Woody Allen's ass, but I doubt anyone can even remember his last film to gross over 100 million.

Keep up the good work in tipping us off to these flicks!

thanks,
Jim

Well I leaned into it on you recomendation Shac. Time crossed chronologies ala Memento are difficult offerings to sink ones teeth into. I don't know where you read it was shot with $7K but as one who shoots with Digital HD and longing for a "film look" there's no way that was shot with little dough as it was clearly shot on film. The musical interlude utilizing vibes was reminesent of Tom Waits' "Swordfish Trombones". All in all, so so.

This should answer most questions about the budget and *SPOILER* timelines.

Now I know why this forum is called OFF TOPIC. (Insert little orange guy laying on back and laughing here.)

Here's a review from Roger Ebert, although I don't think he gets it.
