while I did not bet this race, this is one event I will remember
for a long time.

for those interested check the replay of an experienced jock,
edgar prado, on the lead, choosing to run with a riderless horse (40-1)
for a good half mile, then being checked by the same horse and
successfully ending up out of the money.

Apprentices don't ride like this, let alone journeymen which should
mandate a review by the stewards to protect the betting public
and owner(S)

while there was an automatic inquiry by the stewards resulting
from the fall of Rudy Rodriguez from his mount, I'm wondering if
the stewards questioned Edgar on his ride..

They said he was not able to control the horse - it was nervous with the "shadow" pressing him and wanted to go - whacha going to do when 1,000 pounds says go! You fight him, you lose anyway.
It was racing luck - good video, but stuff happens.

I don't think the integrity of Edgar Prado can ever be questioned.

How little control there is over some horses!! eh!

Ron:

while I never intended to question Edgar's integrity, the ride simply
baffles me.

I also understand Tom's point these four legged "demons" are
obviously more difficult to control than the guys sitting on them.

On the other hand, it simply appears to be bizzare to use your horse
in mid stretch , racing against a riderless horse as against letting the
horse go past you.

His mount finished 5th,beaten over 12 lengths after setting a fast pace being bothered by the riderless horse.Chances are that he would have lost anyway, even had Prado been able to slow it down a bit.He might have gotten 3rd or 4th,but the first two blew by pretty easy, and even softer fractions would have been unlikely to put him in the winners circle. We'll never know.

If riderless horse is one you bet against -- you feel like you've rolled a SEVEN right outta the gate!

If same horse, then bothers/impedes your choice -- you've just rolled SNAKEEYES!!!

Luck, blind-ass luck, or breaks of the game... whatever you call it -- play enough races and you'll benefit just as ofter as you lose to riderless horse. In the long run, it's the horses WITH RIDERS that cause more problems... LOL
