In the season finale, the 10th race, #2 (Walter Llagas) and #5 (Wilkin Ortiz) went down in the first turn of the 1 Mile 70 Yd route. Ortiz still wasn't up several minutes after the race. If anyone was at the track and could provide more information, I would appreciate it. I don't want to see another Lapanese incident like there was at the end of the 2005 season.

I was there; it looked like the #5 (Ortiz' horse) clipped heels and fell down. Then Ortiz got stepped on by the #2, I believe, the horse that Llagas was on.

Llagas got up after about a minute and seemed okay, but Ortiz didn't move and was motionless on the ground while they were working on him. He may not have been breathing because it looked like they were doing CPR before getting him in the ambulance. It looked really bad.

In the parking lot on the way out, I overheard someone say that Llagas came back crying, so it must be pretty serious. To what extent, I can't say.

I reached and left a voice mail. When I hear anything I'll post it.

Here are the latest news and notes from the Suffolk page:

Apparently, Winston Thompson dominating closing day is the only story worth reporting. This sport is a joke sometimes.

Yikes- if Llagas was actually crying you saw CPR being performed that is most definitely not a good sign.

I hope Ortiz is alright and we hear conclusively sooner rather then later.

I have it from a good source Wilkin Ortiz is apparently OK. He was conscious and taken to the hospital for precautionary measures.
