Zito(4) Derby, Pletcher(17) BC Spread too Thin

Zito had 4 horses in the Derby and Pletcher had 17 in the BC--I'd like your opinions on trainers who have many horses in big race(s). Are they able to give enough attention to each horse?

Pletcher's horses made his owners over 2 million, and one broke down which wasn't his fault. Many finished in the money, but no winners.

At the other extreme, Nafzger is only a part time trainer now so he could concentrate on one horse--Street Sense.

Another way to ask the question is if you had a "great" horse would you hire a trainer with 50 "great" horses in training or one with only a few like a Nafzger?

If you'd post this yesterday, I'd have complained that with so many horses, why does Pletcher need to bother bringing horses like Friendly Island? So I guess I'm in no position to knock him now.

Both of these guys win lots of races all year long, and they do not personally focus on each one then, so why should it be different in the BC. They have teams to do much of the work - they call the shots.
