Gate Scratch

Greetings,

There was a Gate Scratch of the #4 Horse in Race 10 at CT Fri 3 Nov 06.

Instead of moving the horses 5 thru 10 in the gate to the LEFT, they moved the #'s 1, 2, and 3 out to the right which left the first Post Position BLANK!

Looked a bit unorthodox.

Is this NORMAL?

it probably depends on the track, but i am sure that it is easier to move 3 numbers out rather than 6 numbers in

Is there a standard rule for adjusting the Post Positions in the event of scratches or is it a case of laziness/commonsense?

I doubt there is a "standard" rule. Mostly whatever a track likes to do. I am still in favor of the NYRA way, and I think a few others do it. Scratch the horse. Get him out of harms way and start the race. No gate shifting, no delays, just racing.
