From his post over on Derby List regarding BC 6f race

"Churchill's six furlong races are held at almost 6 1/4 furlong, since the track configuration requires the extra yardage to keep the starting gate from being placed in the gap exiting the clubhouse turn. So if you have a horse you love who can get the distance, but not one step more, I'd look elsewhere for the 6f Breeder's Cup Sprint.

My question is: At what point are those 6f races TIMED ?" end of question by Mr. Tomlinson.

I don't know a single serious handicapper that doesn't already know this information. Is this some sort of revelation?

By the way, that is from a Byron King article at DRF.

I think Mr. Tomlinson question was " At what point are these races timed ?"

At the finish line.

But they have a long run up and start timing where they would anywhere else, except that the gate is back further. The really has no impact on where they start timing, I would think. Just how fast they are going when they do start it.

If you follow CD, you will almost never see a 6f race w/an opening quarter slower than 22 flat due to the runup. I'd say 21 3/5 is probably average. OTOH, a sub 23 flat opening quarter in the 6 1/2 furlong races is absolutely flying.

I knew it was longer than normal, but not that much longer? we are talking about fifty yards here, right?

1/4f is 55 yards, about 3 seconds time.

if you have an accurate track to track comparison chart, it will already be factored in.

Lee posted today that it is 141 feet run up
