Just saw it. Supposedly they were out of control. Just leap frogging over two or three other buildings.....and leaped one, and nose dived into the next.

I had a bad 5 minutes when I saw the scene on TV. 9-11 thoughts.

I wonder where Lidle would have been if the Yanks had won some more post-season games.

I think all he's saying is that fate, or something akin to it, plays a role in all this. You can think back to any accident and say "boy if I hadnt eaten that extra donut that day I never would have.."

Did anyone else feel a little weird (as the story unfolded) to see that the date was again "on the 11th"?

[In 2001, "9-11", of course, and the Spain train bombing was on Feb. 11th too, I think.]

As it turned out, just coincidental, but still....eerie.

Even if they didn't crash, why were they flying so close to skyscrapers? I thought there were FAA rules re: flying in/around major metropolitan areas. I could be wrong about that but I swear I've heard it somewhere before.

I'm looking at the schedule and now I figure Yanks would have been in Oakland if they won the Detroit series. Maybe just as well since my place is about 1 block off the Oakland general aviation flightpath! (NOW it's sick!?).

there is a very popular corridor right near there. You can basically fly up and down the Hudson river and a few other routes as a sightseeing deal. Lidles dad told a friend that they were doing that route yesterday and then heading west.

It wouldn't take much to get off track. The aircraft that he was flying cruises at about 155kts. One to Two minutes outside the corridor and you are in serious trouble.

Ken, I took the wrong way, and I apologize.

so is there any indication of what caused the crash? Pilot error? Fog? etc.

Things I have heard on the news (radio)...

--It is not uncommon to fly in that area, and he was not very far off course

--The approved flight corridor is rather narrow, and you have to fly rather low

--Witnesses reported the plane flying in a "pogo stick" fashion, going up over a few buildings only to drop back down

--Also had reports the engine was revving very high, decelerating, and revving back up just prior to the crash

--no distress signals were sent prior to the crash

I just saw a video from a coast guard camera on Espn. It showed the plane hitting the building in the distance. It really wasn't cloudy etc, from the angle of the CG camera? Beats the hell out of me why these guys crashed?

we will probably never know what was going on in the cockpit..........

They did not deploy the parachute either..........

this plane comes with a parachute that can lower them to the ground.

He was apparently just as bad a pilot as a pitcher too bad for all involved

He was hardly a bad pitcher. 82-72 over his career is not bad at all. Solid #4 or #5 starter.
