Look there is alot of bashing but so what when I get tired I go away for a few days. The facts are I've had some of the most interesting debates and just plain old good old horse talk as I've had anywhere.

This guy just doesn't get it. I wouldn't know you people if we met in a phone boot ,but we've been thru the same exprience so there is an understanding there that people just don't understand unless they play horses.

This is one of the ruffest toughfest games out there even when you are right you can still lose. Ever go up to cash your winning ticket only to have the clerk tell that race is the race coming up not the one just finished? What about wrong track? What about your winning trifecta that you are at the window to collect on has one problem "no winner" you look at your notes and your lap top and there the winner is at the top he just isn't on your ticket. Ever leave a $110 voucher in the machine and walk away? Ever look in your pocket for that $220 voucher and its not there (been going thru your pockets pulled it out go looking for it and people think you are a stupper.)

I know its happened to most of us at one time or another ,this is the bond. This one of the main reasons I like this board.

Ever have an incredible day ever have many of those days day after day? Thats my take anyway.

You need to hire an assistant! :lol:a

Stay with the mainstream media.......now that is funny.

I would put the cappers on this board up against the DRF types etc......any day. How about those Derby Picks? You would be broke listening to the MSM over the last 5 years...........

Some websites, like this one, we share ideas, usually decent ones, and generally have good racing discussions.

He doesn't mention the name of the harness forum, but it sounds like the one that was added to my old home board. They've already posted the link there are are having a big bash-fest over it.

I will agree with the author that bashfest boards are a waste of time - there are too many important things for a serious bettor to do that get caught up in the personality clashes and the bring downs. I have a very good friend who's been quite sucessful in the game, and he really believes I waste my time on the 'tamer' half of that message board. If it weren't for my friends who either run or post on that board, and people from the local TB industry out there, I probably would have given it up, but I've backed off from posting much there.

Off-topic, I've backed off posting there, but like a car wreck across the street, I seem to just have to keep peeking at it 2-3 times a night to see what's going on (in O/t and that other board). I probably would be better off handicapping the next days card. Oh well, that's my 'problem' to solve.

Long Live the Pace Advantage Horse Racing Forums!

There's more to this board than that dummy understands. When your an online player it's natural for normal human beings to socialize and this is the best thing going. After all we do have something in common. Computers or not, it's still horse racing. :) Not that I think Tom is normal. :D Let's just say he's unique.

No worries. We aren't skeptical of everything that may or may not happen in the barn here, nor are we overly critical of every decision made that may alter the order the horses cross the wire.

This writer swims in a small pool. He certainly doesn't understand horse players. Handicappers sometimes disagree vehemently becasue, in this sport, we are forced to take a stand on our opinions. Successful outcomes, resulting from those opinions, produce firm prejudices or future likes and dislikes. Unfortunately, on chat boards, some of us use the keyboard as a club rather than an electronic pen. Sometimes we express (type) in a manner which we would never exhibit in public setting. All this aside, it's the best fraternity on the net.

Their are horse racing chat boards on the net, where the members are very civil. Here (PA) and one other board, I won't mention, we come together, express those opinions, learn from each other and sometimes "Pontificate" our thoughts. BIG DEAL!!

Steve-

I was thinking the same thing. When I saw the link, that board was the first one that came to mind. At least on this board, there's no one poster who tries to monopolize every single thread.

..."What the board does not advertise is the fact that it's no more than a soap opera for racing enthusiasts. There are personal attacks thrown out for discussion on owners, drivers, trainers. Talk of drug use by certain trainers who are beating the system with what's known on the net-chat as "chemical warefare."

Hey, Einstein. It's soap BOX, not soap OPERA. Maybe you should COMPLETE your on-line B.A. in English before you pen another column.

If it's the harness forum that jwcomposer, valuist and I think it is, it's both - a soap box and a soap opera. Who can do more harm to each other? Who will say even worse things about your favorite or least favorite driver/trainer/announcer/racetrack owner/racing official/track employee/forum poster...? Just how low has the harness game racing game in Chicago and across the country fallen? When will the next fight among the principals at the track happen? Who will attempt to sue the board next? Tune in again next half hour, for another gut-wretching episode of "As The Wheel Turns."

The Intro-net being intrinsically bashfestive, let's not take this island of civility for granted. Speaking of which, can we please get my phreaky photonic phriend Light reinstated? I promise to feed him Limberger(sp.?) cheese when necessary, just to keep him within acceptable limits of vociferocity. *Moe, Larry ... CHEESE*

Yeah, I'm familiar with him as well.
Mr. Waddell is the Publicity Director and Track Announcer at Exhibition Park Raceway in New Brunswick, Canada, and is/was a poster on a certain discussion board; however, on that site he was taking a lot of flack on his views and opinions (it's geared towards Canadian harness racing, primarily in Ontario, and is not for handicapping like this board is.) He would be bashed, often inexplicably, by other posters. I posted there for a while, but left when I found that a number of posters there, especially one who's a trainer at Woodbine/Mohawk, were beyond the level of "rabid."
It's not a board that I would suggest visiting, it gets rather mean spirited there. Considering the junk that he went through, I'm just surprised that it took him this long to write something like that. He's a really nice guy too, he even offered to give me a chance to call some races at EPR (couldn't make it though due to work, oh well.)
I did notice that his column was geared more towards horsemen and owners, and not towards handicappers.

He's been reinstated for a couple of days now on the horse racing side....

My man, along the lines of this article stating "anonymous" posters.

I admit to have spent time, no, make that far too much time on a discussion board that makes itself out to be a place where you can "anonymously" let your views known on a number of different topics set up by it's members in many parts of the country.

But you absolutely have to put the brakes on the anonymous claims being made on your board... its is bordering on the ridiculous
I can't do it because I'm a hot potato with a sketchy background!!

This is my question for anyone who thinks they are fairly intelligent...

If I was a retired MLB pitcher, and I was active on a Baseball Board I would have two options

a. Not say anything about my background.
b, If I do, be prepared to prove it.

I post on Baseball board with John Henry , the owner, and Curt Schilling of the Boston Red Sox. The Moderators called them at the office to verify.

I don't expect you to do that Mike, but how about just some policing??.....with a focus on the anonymous members...

People on the horse racing side, and the OT side make unsupportable claims,,They say just about anything they want.
You got Bala over there now saying he grew up in the Ghetto, worked in the WTC and has been to Africa 20 times ( made this claim multiple times)

But if you asked these guys a simple question

Who are you?

They reply

" I won't tell you that"...........

Before anyone posts a claim they need to calculate in their brain,,,,, "I may want to be prepared to back it up or shut it up....

The man is right to a extent.Yes people gets pats on the back and others get bashed. On these fourms,You are called out on the carpet to explain just what you mean..IF your post is debated by others then it can get very interesting.People need a place to vent rather then kicking the dog. They also need a place to chat about their horse racing fun for others to see.I love this place as its a lot better then all that I have visited.Thats why I post here..Your still the #1 site PA.

Claiming to actually BE a person in the public eye (like John Henry or Curt Schilling) and claiming to have grown up in a ghetto (where millions of other ordinary folk have grown up) or worked in the WTC (where thousands of other ordinary folks worked), or travelled to Africa (where millions of ordinary folk have travelled) are two VERY DIFFERENT things.

Why in the world would I waste my time trying to verify if someone grew up in a ghetto, or worked in the WTC or went to Africa? That's just plain silly.

Now, if someone came on here claiming to be Tom Durkin, you betcha I would attempt to verify this ASAP.....

So you ask Bala "who are you" and he replies "Anthony Falco".....what next? Who cares? That name means nothing, and could either be true or false.....

Unless someone is truly a gifted psychotic, it's fairly easy to tell who is using the board in a fairly honest and forthright manner (most of the time) and who is full of crap.

Forums or any other communication outlet for intellegent people to discuss their views is educational and interesting. Unlike other games of chance....successful players {horse racing handicappers} are generally a thoughtful group. The mainstream doesn't understand that or appreciate that quality. Yet they worship some of the casino high rollers and hold 'em idiots who see two cards and yell "all in"........ Who wants to bother talking about takeouts, speed figures, cycle patterns, trainer intent, and overlays with people who don't have a clue what you are talking about?
