In a 150 race sample, the longest runout is two. Naturally, this is based on betting favorites. My question is what is a suitable betting strategy?

Stay within your bankroll...., seek overlays based on your own handicapping opinions versus the odds board.....bet small to win big. In a particular single race ....use the win pool and the exacta pool. {less take out} Use the tri pool or super pool sparingly...but take advantage of them when you believe that a favorite or well played public choice will not hit the board. Key...never box. Only play pick 3's or pick 4's when you can single a generous odds entry you particularly like {3-1 up to 8-1} or when you can firmly identify a vulnerable odds on favorite you dislike. When those conditions both exist...play accordingly. Be patient...don't play every race with your premier wagers. Save those for when you have a strong opinion. Sit with other good handicappers at your venue. Have fun...use gentleman's manners.....embrace the challenge... but leave the drinking and fooling around 'til the end of the day.
