Track: SANTA ANITA PARK
Distance: Four Furlongs
Time: 45:60 Handily
Track Condition: Fast
Surface: Dirt
Rank: 1/23

That time seems unreal -- even for SoCal. I don't recall seeing sub-46 very often...any thoughts?

His last race was baffling in regard to his finish position. I expect
they wanted a full out work to evaluate his physical condition. A
work like this will make it difficult for them to find a reason for his
poor finish. It sounds like he went as asked. This indicates to me
that he is in top condition.

Why did he run so poorly last time out? Did anyone get clocker
comments for this one?

The other disappointment in the race was Point Determined, who did not take to the Del Mar turf in his first try on grass. He was wide going into the clubhouse turn, fell back, and was never a factor under Jorge Chavez, finishing last. The Bob Baffert trainee's only previous out-of-the-money performance in nine starts was a ninth in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I).

I didn't think it was only the turf course that caused his problem but it's possible.

Certainly a stick out. A baffert horse went 45.8. (1/4'rly report) But beyond that . two others at 46, the rest didnt approach. Appears legit. There are a few 5 furlong works in here that look fairly sharp as well. sub 1.00 flats.

21 of 31 went at under 49 seconds. This is the fastest I have ever noticed a track on a day's workouts. I do not look that often, but Steve Woods has SA souped up super crazy that day.

He just never seemed comfortable on it. He was never a factor at any point in that race. Probably just not a grass horse.
