Could find nothing in the program noting it was any special type of race, just a normal maiden race.

However, when the race was over ( i didnt play it) i noticed that the winning jockey was taller than all the people in the winners circle (maybe 6'1)

so i look at the form and all the jockeys are first timers at 140-150 pounds.

What was that all about?

Yes, they were Amateur Riders. It was pretty clearly stated in the program, don't know how you missed it.

Was using the small $3 drf book with multiple tracks that they sell at otb's

no mention of it at all, but thanks for the info

what exactly makes one an "amateur" jockey?
