While reading last night I came upon a point worth some thought. Evidently there has been a study made about favored horses going off at at less than 2-1 at post. These days they might also be the top fig. Obviously many win. Many know the standard rule is that favorites win about a 33% of all races. Which means that 2/3 lose...so a player trying for an overlay should be taking dead aim. Begs the question: Which ones are the vulnerable type? The first place to look for vulnerabilty according to this study is the favorite who will NOT secure the lead at the FIRST CALL. The author concluded that lack of front speed where others have it in the field is a true sign of vulnerability. The very best clue. I don't know. Made me ponder. I might add that improper distance,.... characteristics of a "bounce" candidate, ....improper surface,....overrated reputation..... up in class, or a "defect" in recent form {layoffs, works etc} might also be warning signs.
