State lottos go through SG/AutoTote when does the money show up from the ticket bought at the market from Maggie? Immediately

SG/AutoTote handles the pull arms where it's progressive and mingled with other casinos for the jackpot - When does the money from each machine show up? Immediately

I could have 1000 people e-mail me at the same time and they show up - Immediately

A race goes off at certain tracks and the final odds are calculated and posted around the time they reach the 16th pole.

I know it's been discussed before and I missed it - But WTF is the difference in this game that keeps them bogged down in a system cira 1977?

Precisely.

And if you actually saw the system itself you would be amazed at the technology.

The racing industry can see no business reason to update it.

Watch some of the old self-serve tote machines reboot and you will see a message containing 9600 baud.

Even when i worked as a teller one year, I never understood why machines weren't connected by category 5 ethernet.

The fact that some are connected by serial amazes me.

The Autotote machines used at Saratoga till last year were DOS based. DOS didn't have a TCP/IP stack. Besides 9600 Baud was more than fast enough to handle a betting terminal and in no way caused a slowdown in tabulating odds.

What did Buddah stand there for this year - two races??
They had to fly in a tech from India to get his stuck voucher out.
I thought that lady official sitting on the stool there - supervising, what, the wind? -died! She didn't move for so long, I started CPR on her. She loved it!

The biggest problem with horse racing is that if I remember correctly, odds updates cycles happen in about 45 second intervals. Why is it not quicker, I dont know, but even if the windows are closed as the gate opens, a half mile is run before the last update cycle happens, thus the late changing odds.

In 45 seconds I could look up and read the top five stories coming off the wires, stand up, do a few push-ups, return to the computer and in the same amount of time they're refreshing things?

Maybe this will help in the changing of the odds after the race starts.

Speaking of late odds drops, I bet a horse at Great Lakes Downs that was 4-1 as they stepped out of the gate, and 9/5 before they hit the first turn....

(Yeah, the horse won, but I was very disappointed)

Keep betting GLD and you'll see odds rumble like you've never seen b4 - Rely not, on the tote

By the way the announcer @ GLD could easily sell a pile of anything on QVC - Such a happy/friendly voice.
