From Lanny Davis' OpEd Piece

A friend of mine just returned from Connecticut, where he had spoken on several occasions on behalf of Joe Lieberman. He happens to be a liberal antiwar Democrat, just as I am. He is also a lawyer. He told me that within a day of a Lamont event--where he asked the candidate some critical questions--some of his clients were blitzed with emails attacking him and threatening boycotts of their products if they did not drop him as their attorney. He has actually decided not to return to Connecticut for the primary today; he is fearful for his physical safety.

They may resort to poisoning him with a yummy pie

I know all I need to know about Lamont - Al Sharpton standing behind him on the podium tonight. All I need to know.

What's wrong with Al? I kind of like him. I think he's maturing as a politician. He was a little more radical in his younger days. I thought he was one of the best debators in the last big Democratic presidential primary race. He was quick, witty and funny.

It doesn't bother me that he supports Lamont.

I voted for Kerry / Lieberman, and have voted for Lieberman in the past. But Lieberman has done a few things lately that I question.

1. He immediately jumped all over Clinton on the Lewinsky affair. I saw it as a power grab.

Funny, now Clinton supports Lieberman in the Connecticut US Senatorial primary. Clinton is smart. I sometimes think he supports people he knows are going to lose. Remember, he threw his support early for Wesley Clark when Clarke was seeking the presidential nomination. That took away votes from Lieberman.

Now Clinton is stumping for Lieberman in the CT primary. Why? Does Hillary need Lieberman as an ally in DC?

It's a big deal that Lamont beat Lieberman tonight. The Republican candidate is very weak. Even with Lieberman running as an independent the Repub probably won't win. He used to gamble at a Connecticut casino under an assumed name. He also paid more than $28,000 to settle a couple of gambling related lawsuits with Atlantic City casinos in the 90s. He won't step down as the Repub nominee even though he is being pressured to do so. Too bad. Chris Shays would have a good shot of winning.

2. The second thing that bothers me about Lieberman is that he would not give up his Senate seat while running for Vice President with Kerry. That suggested to me that he had a lack of confidence and a lack of commitment to winning. He cared more about maintaining his Senate seat than he did about being VP.

3. The third thing about Lieberman that bothers me is that for the past 4 weeks he has been collecting signatures so that he can be put on the ballot as an independent. Again, he shows his lack of confidence.

Again, this makes me think Lieberman cares more about preserving his power than he does about the people of Connecticut and the US.

If he makes me feel this way, then he probably makes a lot of other people feel the same way. I just feel that he is out of touch with his constituents. He is doing what he wants to do and not what the people of Connecticut want.

4. The fourth thing is that one of his spokesmen said he would run as an independent, but would remain a Democrat. If that is true, then what was the point of the primary?

If Lieberman respected the Democrats in Connecticut he would step aside and ensure that Connecticut sends a Democrat to the US Senate. Unfortunately, he continually shows that the only person he cares about is himself. He is willing to jeopardize the Democrats influence in Congress.

Of course, there is always the other side of the argument. And I'm sure Lieberman supporters could justify all of them. Problem is, when you start adding them up, you see a pattern. I don't like the pattern. So I vote for Lamont.

Why do I write this? Does anyone really give a shit? :D

You really should do some research. The man is a criminal. I found this goofy page about him......but the info is accurate from what I have read

http://www.realchange.org/sharpton.htm

When you show up on an FBI tape discussing how to launder money from Cocaine dealings............you fit the bill as a criminal in my opine.

He sold everything he owned and gave the rest to relatives to avoid paying a judgement against him by the Prosecutor and cops he said raped Tawana Brawley............. should we go on?

Not sure I get your point. Are you saying I am wrong to support Lamont because Al Sharpton supports Lamont, too?

I've heard all those things about Sharpton. So what. I still think he is funny and witty and did a very good job in the presidential debates. And I don't care that he supports Lamont. I'm sure I can find lots of criminals that support politicians. It's the politician I vote for, not the people who support him/her.

You said "What's wrong with Al? " I responded. I didn't say anything about Lamont. I was talking about Al. I responded to your inquiry.

Now I get it. Sorry. It's almost 3 a.m. What the hell are you doing up?

Still, maybe Al has grown up. He's no dummy. Has he ever held political office? Has Jesse Jackson?

Is this a great country or what?
