Interesting read in the daily news: http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/439317p-370059c.html

apparently, even the boss himself, Steinbrenner, might be involved

maybe if I send the punk a few dollars

he could ensure that I get to see the replay of the 9th race (rather than a hasty exit to simulcasting) on the state racing channel.

I particularly liked this passage:

Entities controlled by Swindal's partner, former Donald Trump adviser Richard Fields, wrote four checks totalling exactly $200,000 to Spitzer's campaign on July 10.

Fields also is seeking to build an Indian casino in the Catskills, another plan likely to require the approval of the next governor.

A spokeswoman for Spitzer, who has promised to end Albany's "pay-to-play culture," said the current attorney general has a history of showing no favor to his financial backers. "Eliot's record is one of independence from special interests," said the spokeswoman, Christine Anderson. "His record clearly shows that he makes decisions irrespective of any outside influence, including campaign contributions."
