I want to find an economical way to play 5 horses in a Superfecta.
I have a system for 4 horses, but I would like to have one for 5 horses.
Does anyone out there have a formula for playing 5 horses in a superfecta??

Thanks.

Myhorse 1:

Someone gave me a chart showing the cost of certain combinations for superfecta's. I've never used it but here are some of the 5 horse combos listed.

1/3/4/5 = $27

1/3/5/5 = $36

1/4/5/5 = $48

1/5/5/5 = $60

2/3/4/5 = $16

2/3/5/5 = $24

2/4/5/5 = $36

2/5/5/5 = $48

3/3/5/5 = $36

As I said I never used these combos so check them out before use.

What do you mean by system. Obviously you want to do something other than box. There are numerous ways to play with
the whole field and still be cheaper than boxing 5 horses. Give us
something to go on and I will try to give you some good strategies. I call them strategies not systems.

Is this like something you are looking for:

Some have asked, "How is the best way to play the Trifecta or Superfecta when you don't have a large bankroll?" The answer is, "Carefully, no matter what your bankroll is."

You need to feel certain that you have the 5 or less horses that can run 1-2-3-4. Then you need at least 2 horses for Trifectas and 3 for Superfecta's, that are going off at odds that are going to make the payout worth going after. For me that is 5-1 or better for Trifecta's, and Superfectas. You have to decide what is right for you depending on how well you can handicap, or how well the sheet you buy does on those kind of wagers. My preferred way to wager is AB - ABC - ABCD - ABCDE and I like my A or B horse to be at 5-1 or better and 1 of the others at 10-1 or better for Superfectas. And in either case they all have to meet the qualifying rules set forth in "The Book".

Let me know if this helps,

I may of solved my own problem.

I used Dick Mitchell's trifecta "method", and adapted it to 5 horses for the Super.

As:

1st ticket 12, 124, 23, 345

2nd ticket 345, 12, 124, 23

3rd ticket 23, 345, 12, 124

4th ticket 124, 23, 345, 12
The #1 horse being the lowest odds horse and the #5 horse being the highest odds horse.

Four $8.00 tickets. Understandably, it does not cover all combinations that a 5 horse box would, but I have checked 35 races and it hit about 84% of them.
