Maintaining one’s level of significance over a growing number of races, will cause a lowing of win% and % profit.
The attached excel file indicates that if one maintained a significance level of 2 standard units, in a game that offered 1-1 odds, after 10 plays the player could be ahead by a 63% profit . After 100 plays the profit is lowered to 20%, after 1000 plays the profit is 6%
The file also indicates that if someone withheld 15 cents on the payoff for each dollar, one must continue to increase the level of significance over the growing number of races, just to break even.
The chart covers 1-1 odds, 3-1 odds and 10-1 odds.
It’s also interesting to note, that as the odds increase, in that game where 15 cents is withheld for each dollar, the initial plays require less significance.(column R).
Corrections will be welcome.
