I can't seem to get an email reply from these guys (http://www.jdca-racing.com/). I was looking to buy the $300 data archive, but I can't get a response. Is this a reputable shop? Are there any other sources in this price range for data?

Thanks...

I think you have answered your own question my friend. Stick to the businesses that give good support.

You have come to the right place for that. At least a dozen to choose from here. Do a search on what you are looking for and then ask questions of the vendors.

A quick check of what they are offering looks very inferior to anything you could find here. Although the price seems much higher.

Poor value, poor response, time to look elsewhere my friend!

I haven't used their products, and I've never heard of them.

The fact that they haven't answered you isn't a good sign.

There's no database available for the 2007 season yet.

The website was created in 2001 and is due to expire in March.

Based on those three things, it's possible that the website has been abandoned or may be abandoned soon, and it's also possible that the owners don't pay much attention to it. I would certainly want an explanation of those three points before I bought anything from them.

They appear to be offering a database of stats (with results) geared to those who like to do their own analysis. Equibase frowns upon the sale of databases which include any data it believes that it has the rights to, and a lot of what they claim to offer (for example, the running positions, beaten lengths, and fractions) would probably fall under what Equibase forbids the sale of in database format (note that this is different from the end-user creating a private single-user database from Equibase-approved data).

If you're going to buy from them, I'd recommend that you get an answer from jdca-racing as to why things are outdated and an answer from Equibase as to whether jdca-racing is operating with/without their approval (i.e. a partner).

I am new to this forum and am obviously missing something. Of course, the reputation of anyone trying to sell something online who does not respond is mud. I agree with your comments on that. But, where can I find a six year database of results for $200.00? Please tell me!

I must have been mistaken. I didn't see the part where it said "And so much more". :D

Thanks genius. :bang:

Is there anyone out there who can tell me if someone is selling large amounts of raw data. Besides the overpriced data from the usual places.

Apparently you didn't see the part I wrote about how Equibase frowns on anybody selling databases that contain data that Equibase believes it has the right to. Perhaps I should spell that out: if Equibase finds somebody selling end-user databases containing stats that it (Equibase) believes it has the rights to, Equibase will probably sue them and/or pursue criminal charges if applicable. That isn't the same situation as a site which has a database and charges users to query it. It's also not the same situation as a private user compiling a database from Equibase/partner data files for his/her own use.

To the best of my knowledge, nobody is allowed to sell end-user databases of Equibase-guarded data to the public, including Equibase partners. I've certainly never seen such for sale by BRIS, DRF, HDW Trackmaster, or ITS/PostTimeDaily. Anybody who's seen such databases for sale by Equibase partners is welcome to chime in.

Therefore, nobody is going to legally sell you what you want, meaning that you'll either have to compile it yourself or find somebody who's willing to break the law and/or violate the Equibase/partner Terms of Service.

Good luck.

What they will do is provide you with a means to export the data and show you how to load it into a commercially available DBMS such as Access.

Ergo, you have your end-user database.

I've bought JDCA data products back to 1998, but nothing in recent years. Back then they were the only condensed track results source in delimited format I could find, and provided good product support when asked. I don't know about their current situation, but I believe they legitimately helped support user racing database generation well before the current craze of net services.
