IMO one of the best columns he has written in a long time

I read that article, Karl.
I wonder if all these big purses like Breeder's Cup and the like are having an effect, not the main one, but making a dent?
Seems here in So. Cal. trainers with good horses plan their year around the big purses, consequently their horses have fewer starts.
I may be wrong, but it was just a thought.

Karl,

Again, thanks for another interesting link. I rarely read Crist anymore (no specific reason), but this one was indeed worthwhile.

if you're a DRF member.

Excellent column. I'm not an expert, but it seems in-breeding, and the increased breeding for speed and not soundness are also huge factors.

Great/Good horses rarely make it pass their 3yr/4yr old career.
Insurance/breeding fees/syndicate-private sales etc etc.
Does Lasix/Bute etc etc make a horse more fragile? Umm .. I dont
know... Maybe all these drugs mask a horses' pain too much ..
I don't know. But the only thing I'm worried about is "Can any drug actually make a horse run FASTER/LONGER? Without naming
names who are rumored to use such drugs, any EPO type of
drug MUST be stopped. Now that drug, which researchers KNOW
was being used cause there was NO TEST for its level, was a
culprit in Form Reversals. Now such trainers stats Don't Look
as Great cause NOW there is a test & their scared to still use
EPO etc. It's only this stuff that bothers me.
