Wow, one lousy dime took down the whole super pool. Some schmoe playing numbers bags $9k. I'm beginning to hate the 10¢ super more and more.

Why make assumptions on his methodology just because he was betting dimes? Having a large bankroll doesn't necessarily make you any smarter.

And why would you hate it?

With small pools at some tracks, it is smart to play the small denominations. I've hit several P3s for $1 at EvD where I got the exact same amount of money back as if I had a $10 combo. There is simply no sense in playing longshot combos for more than the minimum.

CJ, in your recent thread on the (online payout) problems with the rolling Pik-3's at Phila. On the one Pic-3 you hit didn't you almost take the whole pool?Or was I reading it wrong? If you did take most of the the pool.Excellent  ;)

Yes, that was the point I was trying to make. There is no sense playing amounts bigger than the minimum on longshot combinations at the small tracks. The pools aren't that big usually, 4 or 5k, so it isn't as great as it sounds to take the whole pool.

Don't downplay it, it's still a great accomplishment. :jump:

Years (?) ago on a dark Tuesday at Saratoga. My wife and I hit a tri at the harness track for $1000+.
Anniversary numbers-(Lucky)-I will be honest :D .
I told her to cash the tic. When she returned she said the teller said to her we were wondering who hit that.I was astonished. :faint:

That actually got a lot oc local news coverage. On one channel, the guy says "$92,000! WOW! I didn't know FL handled that much money on one race!"
The Gal co-host says, "I Think that was dime bet."
He comes back with, "$92,000 for a dime investment! Holy Cow!"

And Ron........I need more COWBELL!

I don't like the 10¢ super because it not only pretty much takes away the chance of an ALL for the 4th spot (for those who actually handicap longshots to come in,) but it gives a dime player an opportunity to steal a pool. If a guy hits a super for a dime, I say give him 10% of the pool and carry over the other 90% to the next superfecta pool like they do in England with the trifecta pool. You want the whole pool? Then play it for a buck.

Whatever. I just let my wallet do the talking. I've completely stopped betting supers that offer a 10¢ combo. I just bet heavier in the triple pool.
