Watching the BigM of late, it makes me think about my favorite 'crop' of top notch horses that were in their peak years in 1998-2001.. I really miss these guys and gals:

Moni Maker
Tune Town
Bad Bert
Master Barney
Galleria
Jules Jodoin
Magician
Western Ideal
Supergrit
Noble Ability
Final Cheers

And my two personal favorite horses - Red Bow Tie and Master Miles

those F&M $30,000 purse races with Jules Jodoin and Moveistar Laag were the toughest races to handicap because they beat the crap out of each other week after week.. They actually raced 35-40 times ayear, not like the soft horses nowadays..

I liked 2004 pretty good.
Supposedly there are 10,000+ horses running any certain year, and over 1,000 stable at any 1 track I know of- hard for me to keep up with which year's crop is best overall.
The time period you are talking about is exactly when the most track records around the country were broken- so you have a good point!
