So they scrap the whole card if there's been too much rain for the grass to handle it?

Can't run it on the main track - that's set for harness and the thinner 1" cushion, vs. 3"-4" generally for TB's.

No, they strap on buggys and run them on the harness track! Look for the HTO designation.

Question is , Where do all these horses warm up prerace, with no cushion on the main track ? On the grass too ?

Race 2 has an interesting entrant. La Perouse is coming north for dangerous connections. Preciado ships in and Black skips the day at Philly. Regally bred top and bottom for grass. Was a $255,000 purchase at the September 04 Keeneland sale. Shows 4 breezes since his last try on Laurels sloppy track. That was not a bad try. Expect Moneypenny to be the favorite for the Pletch/Decarlo team, with Grand Septmeber close behind, if not the fav himself. All in all and interesting maiden turfer.

Unreal....Course is used 3 weeks out of the year...and it's not in race shape today? Unreal. Now we have 90 horses itching for the grass that have to wait or look elsewhere? Capped that one for not. Oh well.

I find this out.....just after I printed out 28 pages of past performances. Oh well, at least it wasn't my printer at home.

Odd that they wouldn't try to reschedule, though can understand the cancel. We've had deluges here the past few days, so it doesn't really matter how good a shape the turf course was in, and I understand it was in very good shape, it is soaking wet and it looks like more rain again today.

totally clueless management there when it come to the T-breds.

Got an email from a buddy early yesterday morning saying the grass looked lush at the Big M. Seems here in the States a few drops of water and it's " off the turf time" ( Keeneland a NOTABLE exception).

I checked that grass out yesterday. It looked good from where I was at, but I was not on it. It has not rained at all today. I still think they could have run a soft to yielding surface. Maybe i'm wrong, but that course does not get much action at all.

Time for poly turf!

Be careful for what you wish for......the NFL and many college football teams are already playing on the equivalent of Poly turf.

The players seem to feel that it's as close to real grass as anyone has come. I'm not sure what's underneath it, but maybe this stuff, or something like it, will be on race tracks sooner than we think. Look at the mad scramble to polytrack in California.

There's a lot more "give" to it than conventional artificial turf. Its almost like carpeting but without the asphalt underneath.
