Myers Jr. passes Thursday
- June 01, 2006

HARRINGTON, Del. - Delaware horsemen have unfortunately gotten used to racing with heavy hearts lately as another popular figure in the local harness racing community was lost with the untimely passing of trainer Robert (Boo) Myers Jr. Thursday.

The 36-year-old Myers Jr. passed away Thursday afternoon from what appeared to be pancreatitis. Myers learned the business from his father, long time horseman Robert and mother Gloria. The younger Myers won 612 races in his career and nearly $5 million in purses. He has been a leading trainer on the Delaware circuit the last decade, and has enjoyed great success with a number of young horses in the lucrative Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) program.

He is survived by his wife Shannon and daughter Macy. Funeral arrangements have not yet been finalized. He will be honored prior to the races Sunday with a moment of silence.

Myers death falls just weeks after driver Hal Belote was killed in a racing accident at Harrington on 5/15.
