The Department of Homeland security came out with its new Budget today.

New York City took a 40% cut! While Omaha Nebraska and similar cities got increase's.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
From the story:
But according to the Homeland Security Department, New York has no national monuments or icons _ a determination that led to a 40 percent cut in anti-terrorism funding.

In Washington, Homeland Security Undersecretary George Foresman said his agency would review its finding that New York City has no national monuments or icons that would be at risk of terrorist attack.

"We're going to go back and look at it," said Foresman, who said that the decision was made partly on attendance figures. A federal worksheet based on a variety of data was used to determine the "icon" status and the funding.

Rep. John Sweeney, R-N.Y., called for Chertoff's resignation. Mayor Michael Bloomberg was less militant, although he questioned what was happening in Washington.

"I don't have to list the Brooklyn Bridge, the United Nations and Rockefeller Center and the Statue of Liberty and Empire State Building and the Stock Exchange," Bloomberg said. "So you really wonder what was going through somebody's mind."

Just when you think you've heard it all. Hilarious.

A Homeland Security spokesman insisted New York's cut was based on a powerful new matrix that crunches millions of bits of data to figure out where money is most needed.

"We're quite frankly getting highly sophisticated in our ability to analyze threat," said Russ Knocke.

Technology run amok. Notice he doesn't say "We are better at analyzing threats".....or....."we now make better decisions".....or...."this is the right allocation because...."

nope, just more "sophisticated". quite frankly, to boot.

HS is more BS than HS.

What the hell is Al Qeda going to do in Omaha? Ride their ponies into the side of the Saloon?

So, NYC got $125 million last year and Omaha got $500,000. Are the changes REALLY a big deal?

You tell me.

Is forty a big part of 100?

You should try and look at it the way I intended it. I personally think HSD is a huge waste of money. However a 40% cut wasn't my main point.

A supposedly educated man, who holds the position of Undersecretary of Homeland Security, looked in the camera and said with a straight face.

"New York City has no national monuments or icons that would be at risk of terrorist attack."

In perusing the list of places that the Bush administration does consider to be National Icon's I came across this.

DHS has allocated $16 Million dollars to Salvation Mountain.

Salvation Mountain is actually an amazing labor of love created out in the California Desert. Folk art visionary Leonard Knight decided he needed to express his religious feelings in a big way.

Here's a partial list that DHS has deemed in need of National Security Dollars to fight the
(cue scary music) War on terrorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr:rolleyes: ....:faint:

Alexandria, Indiana: The World's Largest Ball of Paint (http://www.roadsideamerica.com/attract/INALEballofpaint.html) ($12 million)

Niland, California: Salvation Mountain (http://www.bearclover.net/hwy101/salvation-mtn.html) ($16 million)

Alamo Heights, Texas: Barney Smith's Toilet Seat Art Museum (http://www.unusualmuseums.org/toilet/) ($10 million)

Dedham, Massachusetts: The Museum of Bad Art (http://www.museumofbadart.org/collection/index.html) ($31 million)

Key West, Florida: The Chicken Store (http://www.thechickenstore.com/) ($7.5 million)

Alliance, Nebraska: Carhenge (http://www.beautifulplaces.org/Car_Henge.html) ($25 million)

And Soap Lake, Washington: The Giant Lava Lamp (http://www.witwords.com/lavalamp.cfm) ($143 million)

Thank you, Secretary Chertoff, for seeing through the elitist city-slicker spin, and allocating America's resources where they'll protect our heritage.

I think the real point here is that the director of HS is obviously a blithering idiot! What the hell is going on at the WH - a jerk-fest? No moron left behind?
Dumb and dumber and dumber yet? Are IQ's tied in to approval ratings?

NYC has already beenhit twice, a plot against the Brooklyn Bridge thwarted, and other plots uncovered early enough to be stopped. They are the financial capital of the world and THAT is what Al Qeda is targeting. Not some roller coasters in Orlando.

Let's put Jerkoff, I mean Chertoff, in an office in the heart of Wall Street and let him demonstrate how safe it is there!

"Why Omaha? The Midwest city, which has a population of about 300,000 people, could be a target for terrorists, he said, because it is home to several large companies, including Berkshire Hathaway Inc., a property and casualty insurance business owned by billionaire Warren E. Buffett, and ConAgra Foods Inc., an international food conglomerate that owns brands such as Healthy Choice, Banquet, and Hunts.

Union Pacific Railroad, Massoomi noted, is also headquartered in Omaha, and the city is the site of several large financial institutions' major computer network servers.

Also located in Omaha, he said, is the U.S. Strategic Air Command at Offutt Air Force Base, which controls military space operations, computer network functions, information processes, strategic warning and intelligence assessments, and global strategic planning for the U.S. military.

When terrorists attacked the United States on September 11, 2001, President George W. Bush stayed at the command center's bunker for several hours.

Another potential target for terrorists, Massoomi said, are two nuclear power plants positioned near Omaha.

Large public events can also be possible marks for terrorist attacks, he noted. Each summer, Massoomi said, Omaha hosts the College World Series—the NCAA Men's Baseball Championship—at Rosenblatt Stadium. More than 261,000 people attended the games last summer."
