A Look Back: Saving Nureyev (http://tcm.bloodhorse.com/viewstory.asp?id=6788)
In October 1987, Walmac International and its veterinarians went to extensive lengths to save the life of stallion Nureyev. Those efforts paid off, adding 14 years to the horse's life. When the son of Northern Dancer died this past Oct. 29 at age 24, he had been represented by 130 stakes winners. This article detailing how Nureyev was saved in 1987 was originally published in the Oct. 10, 1987 Blood-Horse. Blood-Horse (http://tcm.bloodhorse.com/viewstory.asp?id=6788)

seem to recall that the great thing about this stallion was his calm nature allowing a sling around his middle without much of a fuss.

Thanks for a great story. I didn't know he had sired Theatrical AND Miesque, both of whom I saw winning at the 1987 Breeders' Cup.

I'm was surprised Nureyev wasn't brought up more often. I visited his stall/building in 1996, I think, where they had a great photo display of the various stages of his recovery process. It was pretty fascinating.

That really surprised me about Barbaro - he was in a pool in sling and appeared calm!
