View Full Version : Question?

I see where in many threads people list a race, and then simply list horses and their positions numbers. What does this mean? Is it simply to say you are betting all these horses, or are you betting them win/place/show in the order they are listed? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for answering a stupid question.

Stupid question - NOT!

It depends on the selector Eagle but in general, most selections posted here are listed in their order of preference. Whobet and Irishladstable list their top 3 or 4 contenders in the order they predict the runners will finish. Traynor prefers to list a win selection on top and then use the other selections on the bottom of exactas. Tboles (my partner at thorostats) last selections were posted as bet 2 horses to win. Formula 2000 is currently making expert selections for matchup wagers posted by a sportsbook site, previously he tested a system he was using to post more than 1,000 selections and posted his total return on investment for the selections.

So, generally speaking, if there are no instructions with the posted selections, you have a list of the selectors contenders in the order they are ranked. When there are special conditions for the wagers they should be prominently noted at the top of the posted selections. The ones I have mentioned are experts at making their selections and all are designed to perform in profit over the long term. There are others that also post very good selections.

Find one or two of them that play the tracks you like or that fit with your style of play and track them for awhile, you may find some selections that you would want to wager on. If that doesn't answer your question OR if it leads to others just ask 'em here and someone will help you out I'm certain.

I've never been a big fan of people just throwing up numbers in the selction forum.

I enjoy when people play to a system, while tracking results, or better yet when they make a case for their animal, and how they intend on wagering on him.

I could read those all day long.

Numbers....especially , multiple numbers, with no explanation........bore me.

Message to SUFF,

I handicapp all the races I am interested in.

And I tell you which races at each track I like,

Do you consider what I am doing throwing up numbers ?

OK

Do you consider what I am doing throwing up numbers ?

Yes.

You generally select 4 per race. Regardless of field size. Without knowing who , or how you'd be betting them, or how you came up with them, or any relevant info.

I by no means am suggesting you alter what you do, or that it is wrong, incorrect, misplaced or inappropiatte.

I was just explaining what I prefer to read in the selections forum.

I like talking horses, and typing out what I see (think) is geniunely enjoyable to me. Many posters do similiar posts to you. Some do posts similiar to mine.

It's a big ocean. Swim on.

You don't bother posting your results, so I can only presume your ROI is negative, please correct me if I'm wrong. Curious though, what is your purpose in posting your picks?

Everyone who ever gave a tip to anyone else "is an expert at making their selections".

The fact that selections are "Designed" to perform in profit over the long term doesn't mean they in fact do.

I designed a mouse trap to mow my lawn, but I constantly get complaints from my neighbors about my lawn's appearance, so apparently it's not doing what it's designed to do.

I prefer when a reason for the pick is given, and really like when the results are posted - win or lose. I try to do this and wish others would. I sure am not bout to go looking up results for a list of numbers.

Eagle,
Michael (Suff) & Tom have a point but I dont have the Time to explain how I came up with the 4 9 8 in today;s 1st race at Belmont .
I'm a single dad raising 2 teenagers, Im luck I have time to post my selections . I'm sure Michael & Tom know Im not sitting here throwing darts
at a dart board and posting them numbers. Here is what I can tell you about my selections. After taken many facts into consideration each horse is assigned a number. The top 4 number's are my selection's .
Most races I only use the Top three horses .the 4th horse is used when playing Triples.
I play the same bet every race Ex P/w and Ex Box
Using my top selection over my 2nd & 3rd selection in an Ex Part Wheel.
Then I box my 2nd and 3rd selections .
In a triple race I play a Tri Key A over B,C,D and then Box B,C,D
In the Pk 3 races here is my Pk 3 Strategy

A=Top Selection B=2nd Selection C=3rd Selection

Bet 1 A/ABC/ABC
Bet 2 ABC/A/ABC
Bet3 ABC/ABC/A
Bet4 BC/BC/BC/BC
Total Cost $35.00

Again Welcome to the board

For example.

I like the 5 in the 2nd at Ny today. 8-1 on the morning line.

2nd time against winners----angle

I like the "2nd AND THIRD , against winners actually. With 3rd against being my prefered. But this one goes turf to dirt, so I add a lil juice on the Tightened up likleyhood after the grass run.

I get the class drop. Allow43K to 25K clm
There are some bettable horses here and the price might be 8-1 or better. I get 19% Coa.

5-8-----8-5 in the 2nd

The Filly has shown a couple of different gears. Icluding a nice rated trip behind a 22/45 on the AQD main. I think (surmise) she'll like the sweeping turn at Belmont.

Gallucci is 1 for 22, but 10 for 22 ITM. Hard luck meet is due a winner.

Toe,
Meet Suff on DRF Board. He told me about PA Board
As far as being "Schooled" I believe it was the $2,500 Claimer's at Turf Pardise that did that.

R1 4 9 8 4 has the lead but couldnt hold off the 5 and finishes 2ns paying $4.00 & $3.00

R2 8 1 3 8 makes a move in the strech but back's up to finish 5th
The 1 runs runs at strong race holding 2nd at 22-1 paying $17.00 & $10.20

R3 3 1 7 Didnt like the big fav (Win with Beck .90) 3 runs a nice race closing
for 2nd going off at $15.50 paying $16.00 & $8.50

R4 4 5 9 Had the Winner $7.10

R5 3 1A 11 Big Fav Scald ($1.00) couldnt get the job done .

R6 1 5 4 My 3rd selection wins as the Big Fav couldnt get the job done

R7 1e 5 2 Had the Winner $10.60 & Cold Ex $35.40

R8 1e 8 3 Had the top 3 in the wrong order Came back 8 1 3 Ex $56,00 & Tri $301.50

R9 6 8 9 Had the Winner $8.70 but couldnt catch the Ex or Tri
Hitting the Late Pk 3 Helps $187.00

Happy Now

Well for christsakes the horse will show more speed going dirt to turf.

Toss (understand)that last race. The 5 in the 4th, absolutely ker-rush's this group at 8-1.

Give me a dollar fiddy win and place on DINA!

Sorry for the barb, even sorrier for the ambiguity of my "Let's you and him fight" idea. I thought it was clear that it was between whobets and suff. My Irish bruddah mistakenly thought I was going after him, maybe? This sometimes happens when intervening posts make a direct reply appear much later.

Okay, if all are as confused as I, my work is done, FOR THE MOMENT. If anybody still gets any part of it, let's bat it around until our hair hurts. :)

if you watched the race...very odd manuever at the mile marker by Arroyo. But none the less.....tough 4th at $21.00...in with a shot all the way around the oval. Empty last 50 yards.
