Cause to Believe had two very good races before the Illinois Derby then slipped up. Were those race just bolstered up by faster strips at Bay Meadows and Golden Gate, or were they real?

scratching my head.

No offense, but before people automatically assume that a track whether dry, wt fast, sloppy, muddy, or whatever is always exactly the same they should check at least the finish times the day in question. I would only know how fast the strip was by checking, especially this year at all Magna tracks which may have been on the faster side in previous years.

"The final time for the 1 1/16-mile Cal Derby was a good 1:41 on a track rated fast but still drying out from heavy rains the preceding two days. "
The 4f time for the other win was 46 3/5, in the same ballprk for a finish time. so I would say the tracks were as fast as typical in previous years, "California fast".
I just looked them up!
