disregard my query
i loved @ the bris charts and there is no mention of any incident
sorry for the hasty post
It happened after the finish. I'm not sure why it isn't in the charts. The story is here (http://racing.bloodhorse.com/viewstory.asp?id=33125)!

It is in the charts. The last sentence for the winner= "A sixteenth past the wire, UP AN OCTAVE broke down and fell. "

Saturday's DRF said the horse was put down and JRV was taken to a hospital for a possible shoulder injury. They had no further details on the x-rays.
Wow, he more than likely will miss the entire Triple Crown. I hope he's back by the start of Saratoga.

So who becomes Pletcher's go-to guy in New York? DeCarlo? Luzzi? Santos?

Broken shoulder....out for quite a while

Don't ask me why, but far from cutting away or panning to the gallop-out, they actually kept the camera fixed upon the horse, and sure enough, the poor beast managed to rise and "walk," flopping the hanging-by-a-thread limb around.

I bet UP AN Octave last out in the PA contest, no value this trip. Boy, goes to show you anything can happen, dangerous job for the jocks.

Since he'd won the race, they usually show the winner finishing out. Perhaps the camera person wasn't looking very closely while keeping the horse in focus. After all, who'd expect a winner to break down afterwards. So sad.

You know its big when it makes Yahoo's major news stories.

Never mind the fact Yahoo was a day late in reporting. I guess they were just waiting to find out the extent of the injuries.

as i tivo kee and several other tracks ,all comments above are
accurate.
the replay did not show the incident which ocurred after j.v. finished out with the horse, nor did bris/equibase comment on the incident in their chart results.
i've spoken to john several times at belmont, and despite his incredible
leap to fame as a premier jockey, he is one of the friendliest and intelligent riders i have ever met.
hoping he can make a speedy recovery for the saratoga meet ..

If you read the chart it has "A sixteenth past the wire, UP AN OCTAVE broke down and fell."

Pletcher just said Garrett Gomez would be riding the first string while Luzzi and DeCarlo will handle the JV squad.
