HARRAH’S LOUISIANA DOWNS NAMES NEW TRACK ANNOUNCER
(Bossier City, LA) - When Harrah’s Louisiana Downs begins its 2006 race meet, patrons will be greeted to the voice of a new announcer.
Travis Stone, a native of Schroon Lake, NY, has been named Track Announcer for the upcoming race meet which begins May 5th.
After his first visit to Saratoga, nearly 12 years ago, Stone set his mind on race calling and has actively pursued opportunities that would bring him closer to the booth. Stone has called live races at Suffolk Downs and has spent the past two summers at Saratoga Race Course, practicing the art of calling races.
For the past two years, Stone has written for The Saratoga Special, a daily racing newspaper. Prior to coming to Harrah’s Louisiana Downs, Stone covered the Keeneland Spring Meet in Lexington, KY for The Special at Keeneland, a sister publication of The Saratoga Special. His writings can also be seen on MSNBC.com.
“Travis has a tremendous passion for racing which is apparent through his race calling and writing,” said Mark Midland, Vice President of Racing Operations. Midland went on to say, “He is an exceptional talent with a bright future in racing.”
Stone is a graduate of State University of New York College at Oneonta with a degree in Communication Arts. Stone also attended Missouri Auction School in 2004. Auctioneering provided ample voice training and public address practice, but Stone knew race calling was still his ultimate goal.
“I’m excited by the opportunity and look forward to sharing Thoroughbred racing with the fans of Louisiana Downs,” Stone said. “Racing is flourishing at Louisiana Downs and I feel fortunate to be a part of the growth.”
Harrah’s Entertainment, Inc. is the world’s largest provider of branded casino entertainment.
