Does anyone remember the name of the horse that beat these 2 after they both dueled and set insane fractions.

I think I was at this race on a rainy day at Oaklawn in 1991. The winner was Festin.

if i'm not mistaken ron mcanally was the trainer and eddie d was the rider

That series was really good - great stuff for racing. They showed a couple of those races in Fox Sports NY on a dark day recently. As I recall, the Pimlico Special and Mass Cap were on the schedule, back in the day when you could only bet a special simo race at the tracks - these were welcome features for us.
And good lesson on pace hanidcapping!

I am thinking either Festin, Marquetry, or In Excess because of the previous post by Larry. I also agree that this was a good lesson in pace handicapping.

The race was at Belmont- Belmont day. Festin was the horse.
