IN the 9th at Gulfstream someone named their horse Sello Negro. Seems very weird. I mean Sello in spanish means seal(Black Seal). I dont know, someone might looked at it as Sell O Negro? Weird name I thought

Sello translated from Spanish to English means seal as in (authenticating stamp). So sello negro, means black stamp or black authenticating stamp.

You're questioning how a "questionable" name got by?

C'mon .. the list of "how did that name get by" is endless .. and growing every year! And I believe there are several threads on this site regarding names that have slipped through.

I seem to remember a TV interview segment once .. where someone from the Jockey Club said how a computer checks the names .. from there, I think if anything is red-flagged a person looks into it. My impression is, however, that there is no division of people who actually speak the names outload to hear how they'll sound when being called in a race.

Say: "Tough Shipmate" a few times fast! And there are countless others!

Anybody remember the Baffert horse a couple years back named F'in Entertainment. I couldn't wait to hear Trevor say it, but he called it without the apostrophe....FIN ENTERTAINMENT.

Oh well, of course there was always Hoof Hearted. :D

Hey ToeToe. Just having a little fun with a little convo back and forth about names. Relax yourself. I wasnt screaming racism or anything just asking the origin of the name, or peoples opinion on it. Theyre some weird names out there.

To see where the name came from, Google "Black Adder". Black Seal is the group of conspirators trying to take the crown (in this case, from Richard IV).

I thought I had invented Hoofhearted. Oh, well. I saw a customized bumper snicker once, that read "Who F-[picture of a heart]-ed?" I read, "Who floved?"
