I'm hearing on the radio that a stable at a thoroughbred farm in New Jersey burned down, with many horses in it. I'll check the "straight" news.

Here's a link. Seems it was a standardbred farm:

A fire on a 900 acre breeding farm? Am I missing why the smoke detectors and sprinkling system did not help? Is it strictly a cost vs. value of horse flesh thing?

No sprinkler system in the barn. YOu'd think that now adays it should be mandatory . NO ? The deceased horses were 12 mares and 12 foals, all a month old. Damn !

With the high equine insurance rates for higher priced horses, does the insurance companies require anything special? what about at the KY Derby? Any special equiptment, or just many peole around to sound an alarm? What fire equiptment do tracks have?
