According to my limited records SM has produced his 4th consecutive FTS winner at GP today. Now SM is at this point in time only considered a "C" sire. So the prices remain acceptable.

Today in the 1st at GP there was a 7-2 SM FST that won easily. Last winner by SM paid 80-1 at GP. Might be a track-specific phenomenon or simply the emergence of another hot sire. In any event he's still flying below the radar so SM, FTS may be worth more than a cursory look.

Murph & Bruddah, thanks for your very comphrehensive replies. Perhaps you gentlemen can help me with another sire. "Songandaprayer" (sp) is rapidly becoming my favorite FTS sire. Have caught a few very nice prices. Can you back-up my contention that his offsprings do very well as 2 yr olds?

Thanks in advance.

Straight Man is getting 35% winners for ,FTS, Dirt, as per my last post. Umm that's pretty good I'd say!

Hit the links in my last post fm. Andy keeps them up very nicely. His updates are usually at end of month. You can see how your sires have improved in that time by saving the Feb. list and compare with the update for Mar.

Man, I LOVE Handicapping!

Sire Straight Man

In his entire stud career (not including possible starters in Europe):

He has had 11 total first-time out winners out of 100 starters (this includes all ages first time out)..... 11 %

He is 30 for 245 with all 2-year-olds, combining all starters of that age.....12%

In the past 365 days from yesterday:

He has 7 first-out winners out of 56 starters (includes all ages first time out).....13%

He is 15 for 140 with all 2-year-olds, combining all starters of that age...11%

Including all sires of first-time starters (of all age groups, not just 2-year-olds) and with a representative sample size of at least 30, Straight Man isn't even close to being one of the top sires of first-out winners, be it in the past 365 days or the past three years.

Examples: Forest Camp, Trippi, Cartwright, Precise End, Five Star Day. There are many sires winning at a 20 % + clip with their first-time starters with a very representative sample size.

Turf, interesting stats. Do you happen to have any that are "track specific"?. My initial point was that some sires seem to do better at various venues. I've found this to be true with a few sires that have provided me with a rather unique angle that few 'cappers utilize.

In any event, continued success.

FMHealth......

You're posing quite an esoteric question that in theory may have some merit.

But think about reality.

You are not going to see that many Cal-bred sires debut in Florida or vice versa. To me, it stands to reason that you will get more first-out winners by a specific sire at a specific track, especially in STATE-bred maiden races (fewer sires are mixed in among the starters than in open company maiden races).

You may get a random chance handful of first out winners by a specific sire at a specific track. But until you get a reasonable sample size (I use 30 to start being reasonable), I deem it random chance.

And think about this. How many of those "first out winners by a specific sire at a specific track" occured on the same SURFACE (e.g. fast track, not sloppy, not on turf, etc.) ?

Turf, some good examples of "track-specific" sires that I've utilized with a certain degree of succes are, the aforementioned SM, Tale of the Cat at Bel & Cartwright at Haw. Also noticed that Adonis produced a few back to back winners on wet tracks at Aqu.

Since I have plenty of time on my hands, I tend to look for the esoteric when I comb through the charts. I've unequivically proven to myself that I can't win using conventional methods. I'm always on the lookout for a fresh angle.

In any event, thanks for your insights.

I've often thought that many "pedigree" angles were a function of the barns that get their progeny, and their habits.

Just as a follow-up. About a week ago I happened to mention a micro-niche of "track-specific" sires. As fate would have it today at HAW a FTS by Cartwright won at 9-2.

He was one of the examples I happen to use. Now I was too busy doing my taxes to have uncovered this before the race. But, I believe that for the diligent 'capper this just might lead to some "hidden gems" at specific tracks.

In any event, best of luck!!!!!!!
