View Full Version : TVG Strikes Again - This Time at Del Mar

I just learned that Del Mar will not be offering streaming video from their web site this year. If you recall, in past years, they offered the regular simulcast feed for both dialup and broadband connections.

This year, TVG is handling the Del Mar streaming video and in order to get it, you need an account with TVG. And, in order to open an account with TVG, you need to live in one of the few states that they are operating in.

If you have an opinion I suggest that you contact the following:

Mary Shepardson, General Internet Coordinator

marys@dmtc.com

Joe Harper, General Manager

joeh@dmtc.com

I've already given my two cents worth!

Get a dish for $23/month in 1 room or $49 buck in all rooms.

I have a dish. Why do you think I'm pi**ed that DMR would give TVG the streaming video franchise? I can't escape those clowns.

(BTW...got a reply to my email from DMR already. "They weren't aware that TVG would be restricting access based on what state fans lived in.") Plan "B" is in the works. Stay tuned!

This is a disturbing trend that I noticed first at Calder. We can't let these guys get away with it.

I probably shouldn't even ask, but where in the world do you guys get the idea that you have a right to free streaming video from ANY track?

It's the track's property. You might as well complain that they don't let you take home the clubhouse chairs.

I guess we got that idea because a lot of tracks DO offer free video. It is a real neat way to get people to bet on your track. It costs them nothing and they build a fan base.
Oh, excuse me.....I was using common sense there. I forgot we were talking horse racing. I'm sorry.

(And we can do more that complain...we can move to another track. In this day and age, NO ONE needs any ONE track)

Well,

It does cost them something for sure -- it is an expense to broadcast live video on a website (just try it), but it is probably made up being increased wagering. Maybe not, maybe we're the only ones watching it.

Anyway, it is not so much a right as it is just good customer service. Free pp's would be nice too. The thinking that dominates the industry is short-term instant gratification. Wouldn't it be nice to see some long-term thinking -- some INVESTING in an idea?

Then again, I suppose that's what Magna is doing, but we complain about that too.

To Logan:

I never said anything about having the "right" to anything from any track. Free or otherwise.

And to those who might be interested in this thread's issue, here is a reply that I received from Mary Shepardson at Del Mar:

"I'm ashamed to admit it hadn't occurred to us that you couldn't sign up if you weren't in a TVG state--which I have verified is the case.

"We did have a backup plan in place, which we'll be implementing, since you brought this to our attention. We'll offer direct streaming video for those who can't access the TVG site."

Mary

Comment:
I'm not sure what that means exactly (because I can access the TVG site) but I'll know tomorrow right after Bing sings!

Ever go to a fancy restaurant-where they charge you admission, extra for a good table, then sell you a menu??
This is race track thinking. I think they need to vent off the manuer fumes a liitle faster-it must be clouding the thinking of track-suits.
See Saratoga raised the entrence fees this year-over 30%!
But have they improved the product any? (And adding a lot of secuirty nonsense as well)

And the industry wonders why the shit has hit the fan.. why the pools are lower, and interest is down.. Gee, I wonder why..

Here I have been looking forward to the Del Mar meet. They have had a good streaming video to see the races. I cannot get TVG since I am on Cox cable here in San Juan Capistrano, Ca and they do not offer TVG.

I have not been to a race track in a few years but I am planning on going to Del Mar on opening day. Is anyone else going tomorrow.

I am the fellow that uses the Always Professional program..

I will be on my honeymoon in San Diego on Sept 8-18th, so I will be catching 2 days at Del Mar...

Congralutions on your coming marriage and San Diego should be a great city to honeymoon in.

I have not missed going to the track since I started betting over the net. After tomorrow I probable will see why I had rather bet from home..

I will be going to Alabama & Kentucky the middle of Sep for a family reunion and high school reunion.

right, name one other sporting event that you can watch commerical free at no cost on-line.

the industry loses nothing by pissing off free riders.

A lot of those free riders are pouring hundreds of dollars into the pools every week. The other free riders (The ones that flip a coin to decide races vs. slot machines) aren't interested in video feeds. So that leaves the only ones pissed off being the ones supplying the main source of income for the tracks. I would venture to guess that the level of pissedoffedness is approximately proportional to the ammount of dollars fed into the pools every week.

Comment:
Race Track Streaming Video commercial free? Which tracks are you watching? They do pitches for beer, food, Sunday's concert, Friday matinee $1 specials, next weekend's extravaganza, bobble-head dolls, t-shirts, baseball caps, etc. They have popup windows to get you to register for their email letters and offerings. It goes with the territory.

Add Barona Casino and Toyota SUV's to the commercial list.

The video stream from RaceTime Technologies via Real Player is looking just great. I think my stream is about 260kb on DSL.

Go Baby Go!
