In the 8th at HOL yesterday (Sunday) Is It True Mex continued to amaze with another win (easy one too) in a 5.5f turf sprint for 50k claimers.
This 6YO had never tried turf until last fall at Bay Meadows when he went in a 4.5f sprint with 12.5k claimers and won. Won the next, and the next, and the next, and the next, finished 2nd, won again. Anyway, after yesterday's win, his turf record is 14 9-2-1 with about $119k in the bank from those races. His best Beyer from one race back is a 103 and that's about what he ran yesterday. The one really poor turf effort was at 5.5f at HOL when he was pinballed at the start and floated very wide on the turn.
Of course the problem now is where to run him. No turf sprints at DMR. The way he finished yesterday, I would expect that he would show up at Oak Tree in some 6.5f downhill events. And, I wouldn't expect to see him back in for 12.5 anytime soon. (Although having run that low, might provide some starter allowance options.)
Nothing like a good hard-knocker finding his niche!
