I know there are some good computer people on here and wondered if I could get some help. I've searched the web, Dell's site, and others but still having problems.

I was trying to record into my laptop using Audacity with a microphone. After hours of messing with it I found that the Speech Recognition System is on. It has always been on!

I did the Add/Remove programs to change the settings of MS Office XP by clicking 'Not Available' on the Speech Icon in the Office Shared Features and rebooted. Put this external mic on this Dell laptop is still on.

It is interesting to think about and a little creepy knowing that for the last four years whenever I cut this laptop on the microphone is picking everything up in our great room. :)

Anyone else ever have this problem or noticed this? Do I need to change something in Start-Up menu or anything?

Thanks in advance if I'm not able to reply back immediately.

Plugging an external mic into the laptop is supposed to disable the built in mic automatically. It doesn't. It is a defect found on several laptops. The Dell forums I have visited all have postings about this problem and the only ones who could fix it, actually opened the laptop up and pulled the plug out on the built in mic...............good luck

JustRalph,

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll search for some more Dell forums. It is not too far fetched to think that being on digital cable whatever we were saying could be sent and heard.

Maybe we've had a 'Truman Show' and didn't know it. I hope everyone liked the show. :) Yes, those strange sounds after dinner are what you think you heard. :D

P.S. Bud Shoot Out starts in 10 minutes. I'll be broadcasting the audio from my laptop.
