Check out Above The Wind's record in dirt sprints at Tampa! This is pretty f'ing sweet! He's entered against Sir Shackelton and others in a Stake at Tampa on Saturday. He's looking to win that stake for the 4th year in a row.

Above The Wind has won his last seven consecutive starts in dirt sprints at Tampa. NEVER ONCE as the favorite, two of the wins coming at odds of 65/1 and 36/1. Here is a brief summery of his last seven races sprinting at Tampa.

Jan 25th '03 7f Super50K 1st by 2.25 36/1 odds
Dec 27th '03 6f Pelican60K 1st by 1 65/1 odds
Jan 10th '04 7f ALW 1st by 0.5 4/1 odds
Jan 24th '04 7f Super50K 1st by 1.5 7/1 odds
Jan 1st '05 6f Pelican60K 1st by 2.75 7/1 odds
Jan 29th '05 7f Super50K 1st by 3.25 5/1 odds
Jan 14th '06 6f Pelican60K 1st by head 5/1 odds

That's seven wins from his last seven tries, six against stakes company. His smallest win payoff was $10.60 and his largest win payoff was $132.40 Last time out, this 9yo gelding got passed in the stretch, after the rider lost his iron, yet he still came back to win the race...running a 101 beyer in the process. A simple $2 win parlay on this horse over that span would have returned you $64,375,860.00 Not bad!--heck, you'd be $63 million+ ahead of Steve-O!!

Above the Wind also broke his maiden, first time out, at Tampa, going 5 furlongs. He paid $21.20 that day. He's run nine times in his life in Tampa sprint races, won eight of them, including his last seven in a row. His only loss came in the '02 Pelican Stakes, when he was beaten 4 lengths at 42/1.

Because I like another horse a lot in that race, I won't be betting on him. It won't be the most shocking thing in the world if he wins again though.

If I wasn't betting against him, I'd be watching and rooting for this super nifty 9yo Michigan Bred gelding. That's one real cool horse.

Frankel's horse Powerful Touch should bomb them. You will tell us who your "other horse" is after the race right?

Yea, that was my plan all along.

Since you called me on it, I like Nightmare Affair in that race.

WinewomenandsongSalvatore,

Don't you just LOVE 13-horse fields for a lousy stinkin' $50,000 purse? :jump:
Your horse is a good horse, DrugS. Your horse, Above The Wind and Pirate King are my keys. Zito's and Frankel's are slumming in here, and Pirate King is irresistible, switching as he is to JOE JUDICE(!), maybe the first runner-up to Russell Baze in a Northern Ca. jockey race. Jeez, he goes back to the days of Richard Galarsa, even. So here goes:

Trifecta: 9,10,13 // 5,6,7,9,10,13 // ALL; assuming no scratches, $165 for $1. Not too outlandish to need Frankel's to not win it, and Zito's to be third or worse, although Zito's is good at all distances, and getting up for second is plausible. For $33 more you can put him second, also. And after that, only $22 more to put #5, Watchmon, up on top. He was favored over Powerful Touch in that weak-ass NW4X last time. Oh yeah, I expect Pirate King, at 8/1 on the m.l., to go off at 20/1 AT LEAST! Fascinating race, DrugS. Out here we have 5-horse fields running in graded stakes for six figures. :faint:

Above the Wind.
Those Michigan breds get no respect! The old guy is a machine at Tampa. Loved his sire Island Whirl, speed that could carry a distance, won an early edition of the Super Derby, and Great Above on bottom - Holy Bull. Looks like he liked his breather after his less than stellar performances at Great Lakes Downs! I bet he struts to the post saying 'I'm bad and this is my track so stay behind me' Thanks for the heads up Drugs.

I'm gonna guess that Island Whirl is by Pago Pago. For $200, please, Alex?

Drugs – nice large field but many of these shouldn’t contend much early or late, “Above The Wind” should be long odds once again here but no picture for him tomorrow I suspect. Not many early pace types which would typically make “Above The Wind” a dangerous horse in this spot but somehow I don’t see him getting the job done, I see him not much better than 3rd or 4th tops………………….

My “A” horses include
(6) Morine’s Victory
(9) Nightmare Affair – your horse
(10) Sir Shachleton

My “B” horses are.
(7) Powerful Touch
(8) Purim

(3) Dazzling Dr. Cevin at 20-1 could help light up the tri’s and super

Switching to Judice from Lezcano on Pirate King I believe is a negative. The 9 year old vet Above The Wind just keeps on winning at Tampa and expect another big effort today.Shoeless

I love the angle where a horse is entered in a stake they won the previous year, or in this case, previous years. The owners and trainer are aware of it; the horse clearly likes the track, the distance, the competition level and even the time of year.

I come up with exactly the same contenders as K.

11-9-6-8-7,3 in order of prob.

Trifectas
9-10 with 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, 11 with 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, 11
and
3, 4, 5, 9, 10, 11 with 9-10 with 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, 11

Cost $80

1-7-12-13 scratched. The 6 looks like the controling pace, should continue on with the 8, 9 and 10 filling in.

Okay, a nine-horse race it becomes. Maybe not worthy of trifectation. Anyway, I'll amend the mythical ticket to:

5,9,10 // 5,6,9,10,11 // ALL, now only $84.

Exacta alternative:

5,9,10 // 5,6,9,10, totaling $9.

Nice picken Chic ;) -- I figured Sir Shackleton would be tough here but the x's paid peanuts to (8) Purim who I thought was a bit of a hidden horse. Just returned home so I missed the race,

I always enjoy capping a race that someone throws up on the board, looks like others do as well.

My bet was 5,9,10/5,8,9,10,11/5,8,9,10,11/
and 5,8,9,10,11/5,9,10/5,8,9,10,11/

Looks like a good hand but I can't turn it into a winner.
