The winners (U won't believe it!):

meanwhile, the rich are licking their chops at the extension of tax cuts that would save em on their DIVIDENDS AND STOCK SALES. All in all, the bills will increase the deficit by $70 billion. the defecit is already projected to be around 300+ billion for the year.

Roy Blunt's take on the situtation:

"Once again, House Republicans are on record as defending budget discipline," said Acting Majority Leader Roy Blunt, R-Mo. "We have achieved $39 billion in savings, while streamlining government." :D

At the heart of it is the fact that our president is not fiscally intelligent. As a little rich boy, he never had to worry about where his next meal was coming from, never had to consider he could lose his house, lose his car. His daddy didn't even understand the concept of a supermarket scanner when he was in office. How can people like this be expected to govern real people?
Bush just throws money around like it wasn't his - which it isn't.
Add to that that most congressmen and senators, if not rich when they take office, are certainly rich when they leave. WE don't have lobbyists to sell our votes to or many of us would be a lot better off as well.
And it is both parties - there is absolutley no accountability for our elected officials, other than voting them out of office and voting another leech in thier place.
Bush's, Kennedy's, Delay's, they are all so far out of touch with real America is isn't funny. The only one with any down to earth fiscal intelligence is John Kerry - he sniffs out rich widows and marries them to ensure his survival.:D

The fact that the repubs have controlled the governement alone so long is testimonty to thier gross failure to govern.

I guess you don't like the facts or something. Take a stand that's all I can tell you. stop hiding that you are really lefty all over again. There's no point in it.

I don't know when people are going to wake up and realize Bush is not a "conservative" in the fiscal sense. Never has been. He's more a neocon in the tradition of Wolfowitz, Perle, and even Lieberman. War costs a lot of money, and spending without revenue to pay for it has never been a big conservative cry. In fact just the opposite. Hence, the conservative push for the Balanced Budget Amendment, which is a former conservative movement, I have always been in total agreement with.

GW's focus is more on the MidEast than on the fiscal crisis facing this nation. He asked for another 80 billion today for Iraq and Afghanistan. He's created an extremely bureacratic prescription drug program that nobody can figure out and his own party doesn't even like, and the deficits projected by the CBO are off the charts in the coming years. Frankly, he is like an early speed horse who has ran his best race and is just trying to hold on. It's getting embarassing.

But since this thread is fiscal responsibility? What ever happened to his mission to Mars and the Moon? His proposals do seem otherworldy lately. Frankly, in all honesty, I'm a little afraid for his health. After watching that SOTU he looks likes he's just reading the script anymore and waiting for applause.

Kids in Chicago schools are now learning Mandarin. Sounds like a plan. Sad, but true.

And Bobby, the average tax cut received last year by those making over 1 million was $105,000 per person. I don't know if Lefty got that much back or not. And of course to help pay for that you cut student loan money on students, and cut Medicaid for the poorest. I'm all for cuts, but ONLY when they're across the board. This is way over the top on picking out the most in need and rewarding those who have already been vastly rewarded the last three. And wasn't it GW's Energy Plan that decided to give tax breaks to Exxon Mobil? That worked out great didn't it? But if you've a kid who needs a college loan, screw you. Or if you're an an industry laying off 30,000 workers, screw you. it's market forces at work. If its market forces at work, why did Exxon get the tax breaks. The guy's rhetoric is all over the map and totally inconsistent. And I'm sure cutting student loans will help us be more "competitive" in the international workplace.
