One of the TVG guys is interviewing Chris McCarron before the Eclipse Awards. They ask him who he thinks are the new "up and coming" riders. His answer? Alex Solis and Edgar Prado.

Isn't Solis in his late 30s or 40? He's been around forever. As for Prado, he was "up and coming" in the early 90s. McCarron must be going senile.

I think Prado, Bejarano and Johnny V. will quickly rise to the top now. Prado was already an up and comer, but "suffered" with Bailey around, he'll get a ton more mounts now.

Those guys are already at the top. Bejarano may still be considered an "up and comer" but he's been a rising star for the past few years.

The guy from Santa Anita tried to crack a joke when he presented an award. He said something like "15 minutes ago Michael Gill tried to put a claim in for this award." It wasn't bad but nobody laughed. Then it dawned on me: other than Steve Asmussen, nobody in that room probably even knew what a claim was. Certainly the Melnyks and Phipps and the like had no idea.
