I'm heading to Reno for a wedding this summer and I was wondering if any one knew which casinos out there had the best racebooks. I've never been out there so I don't know the area at all, will probably be staying at the Silver Legacy. Thanks!

I believe the only real choice is the Reno Hilton. I could be wrong, but I am not even sure any of the others are pari-mutuel.

Give me a couple of days and I will check on it for you.

Where will you be staying?

If you'd like more detailed information (like where to find the best all-you-can-eat crab <G>) just let me know.

Dave,

Is Reno Turf Club still in buisness? If I recall it was/is the last of the free standing racebooks in the great state of Nevada.

hi,

IMO, the best is Reno Hilton but it is not downtown.

from the Silver Legacy (downtown), you will be a short walk to Circus Circus, Harrahs, and Cal-Neva. Do not know about the Reno Turf Club but did not like anything downtown and primarily used Reno Hilton when I was there. All of these are 'small' compared to the Reno Hilton.

All the above are Pari-Mutuel but Cal-Neva does (well in 2004) offered the House-Quinella. The Nugget in Sparks is the only book that I know of that was not pari-mutuel. Sparks is a short taxi (or bus) ride from downtown Reno.

Dan,

Turf club building is long gone. Almost all the racebooks in Reno (except for Harrah's, Circus & Hilton) are owned/run by Cal-Neva. They were not pari-mutuel last time I was in one.

The turf club was owned by the Cal-Neva in its last years. (Actually, the building was owned by them for many years.) Although always a bit of a dive, it had a loyal following of old-timers wagering their $2 each race.

Thanks for the info. Will probably be staying at the Silver Legacy. If not, it will definitely somewhere in downtown.
