Just came across this in a book about Alan Turing.
Ada, Lady Lovelace, one of the finest women mathematicians of her time and daughter of poet Byron, teamed up with Charles Babbage to work out an infallible gambling system for horseracing.
Alas, during pratical trials, this system proved almost as costly as Babbage's automatic calculating machine.

Ada's role in computer history received its supreme acknowledgment when the US Defense Department named its programming language ADA after her.
