DA STOOPS

Yet another good looking Cal bred. Looks better than another Cal bred BROTHER DEREK. Imagine how good BRO LO was before getting sidelined with injury. He beat DA STOOPS and BROTHER DEREK by 9 and 8 lenghts, respectively.

Those CA Bred races are of a much higher class than the typical race restricted to state breds elsewhere around the country - certainly massively better than NY breds (even though NY breds are better these days than many years ago). Horses move in and out of the high level CA bred races into graded open company stakes races and do well rather routinely.

While he ran as fast as the Malibu winner today, after slightly softer fractions, he's not so good as Brother Derek, who, by the way, lost all chance at the start in the Bro Lo sprint. Two turning, Derek2U is vastly superior. Against a pedestrian field, dropping two or three levels, Da Stoops was mighty impressive. The problem will be finding non-Ca.-bred or -Sunshine-Millions fields that he can beat. Hey, it could happen.

Yea, Da Stoops looked super impressive visually today...and his final time was identical to the winning final time in the so called "Grade 1" Malibu.

On the surface, it's very eye-catching when a 2yo Cal Bred can run just as fast as a winner of Grade 1 race for 3yo's did later on in the card.

That said, Da Stoops got a comfortable early lead, over a speed biased race track, and really dropped the hammer on a pretty moderate field of horses.

It's unlikely that Da Stoops will ever find more favorable circumstances, but, he did exploit the highly favorable circumstances and really put on a show.

BTW, I agree about Bro Lo being a freak.
