Well it's just a couple weeks until several of the early 3y old races will have been run. Four of the earliest have, in the past, produced Derby runners. The Tropical Park, though on turf, has the distance to make the ones hitting the board worthy of a look. At Gulfstream we have the Aventura, at Aquaduct we have the Count Fleet, and out at Santa Anita we have the San Miguel. One of the nominated horses for the Count Fleet that I have been watching for some time is Fire One Up. As for the Tropical Park many are nominated. Some are true turf horses and will stick with turf, while a few are in to see how they will do at the distance. A few of the latter I think includes Saint Damion, Tahoe Warrior, Up an Octave, Wedding Singer, and Yankee Master. While none of these may even run, let alone do well, if they do I think they will bare watching on the Derby trail. I'm looking forward to seeing the nominations for the other two races.
