If anyone is using a BRIS chart parser, you will find that starting Monday they have changed the format as follows:

Old:

4 1/2F Dirt.
6F Dirt.
1M Dirt.
1M 70Y Dirt.
1 1/16M Dirt.

New:

4 1/2 FURLONGS D
6 FURLONGS D
1 MILE D
1 MILE 70 YARDS D
1 1/16 MILES D

My skeptical side figures this was intentional.

You must have some inside connections!

This past Monday, no connections here.

Thanks for the heads up. TSN full charts have not as yet been similarly changed. It is probably also just a matter of time.

Oops - I misread your note.

Of course it was intentional. They tend to change things once is a while, usually to make it easier to to read and more standardised:and in the process easier to parse.

Changing things often will make it tougher to parse, not easier. Anyone can parse charts if the format remains static. If it doesn't, it is harder.

Not a big deal really, just annoying.

If I actually used a chart parser ;) , I would use TSN, because in my observance of this, it hasn't changed yet. If it does, it should be easy to write a simple routine to change the distance into the format that you need.

20-20 hindsight :D

They fixed the distance/surface problem that existed with quarter horses where 300 was interpreted as 3F rather than 300 yds. etc. Another change is that in quarter horse charts there is no "Fractions" section only time and the time for quarter horses also appears correctly.

Class changes were made in the header line too (MCL, ALW, AOC, MOC etc.)

The "off time" is still screwed up where it doesn't handle 2-digit hours (9:59 PM rolls over to 1:00 PM)

OK, so now they've changed again. Now the surface is nowhere to be found, and some class abbreviations have been spelled out.

I still smell a rat, why eliminate the surface?

Looks like they read pa forums too and noticed all the topics on chart parsers. I guess you will have to backfit the surface by looking at whether the track was fast/sloppy or firm. The data police win again.

Maybe it is time for all of us to dump bris and switch to another sport like dog racing?

What if it was good?

What if it was good?

Flip a coin? Heads = Dirt Tails = Firm Edge = firt?

That would not be good.

PA should make a password protected forum.

Looks like the surface is dirt unless the chart says "(Turf)"

You might watch Paschendale in the 12th race at Phoenix Greyhound Park. Not to bet. Just to watch.
Good Luck

If only these two-bit data whores would pay half as much attention to the accuracy of their data as they doing trying to screw everyone out here.

Go by the track condition if you can't find the "T" at the end of the distance. That is Firm is gonna be turf

Actually, they really can never win in the long run, they can just make it harder on us.

Thanks, that wasn't there when I went to bed.
