I notice that not one member of the four horsemen has posted a damn thing about the election in Iraq. Could that be because it is a rousing success?

Could it be because the country is becoming more unified? Is it because this election is being viewed as a success? A national election for a democratic country in the Middle east has just occurred. This is history making.......and for every soldier who has been lost.........their families should be beaming with pride today.

The silence is deafening.....................http://annika.mu.nu/archives/iraq%20election.jpg

Funny you posted this Ralph, because I was just thinking there are 10 million blue stained middle fingers pointing at the insurgents telling them "We will risk our lives to eastablish democracy." The BBC ran a positive story on the election, and the NY Times ran a story about as positive as that paper is capable of doing. Of course, this is a sad day for some because good news out of Iraq might mean a bounce in the polls for Bush and nothing could be worse than that. :bang:

Here's an excerpt from an e-mail my old first sergeant sent me this morning:

"I'm surprised that the news would even report it !!!
You know that makes it look like we are doing something right !!!
Fucking right we did something special! Best Christmas present I could get !!! "

moveon.commie is out of ink - Iraq bought it all up. Can't publish their party line until new ink comes in.

They've been all over the board since you started this thread Ralph. You'd think they'd realize people might take them more seriously if they acknowledged the successes and seemed pleased that it went well.

Here's a quote from an editorial in the Arab News:

It was the voice of the Iraqi people that was being heard yesterday, not the bomb blasts of the terrorists. What little violence there was as millions crowded toward their local polling stations only served to demonstrate how incoherent and pointless are the efforts of the men of violence to change the country through further bloodshed.

I heard an interesting fact yesterday. There was a boycott on vehicles moving around during the election process. This means that you had to walk to your polling place. I heard on the radio that many walked 5 miles to vote.

Can you imagine what the turnout would be here in the U.S. if Americans had to walk to the polls?

I for one Hope the Iraq election will actually lead to some good.
The Iraqi people deserve everything we promised them and more.
Although the bush regime have been losers on every reason to invade Iraq, maybe, just maybe they will pull off the last-to invade to remake a nation.

Having said that, I don't necessarily believe it will work as advertised. Remaking the Mid East the way bush has opted to do, resembles more a pipe dream than a viable makeover technique. The political dynamic of the region is more complex than the neocons have imagined. It is certainly historic, and our people on the ground have done admirably, but we are walking a tightrope between civil war and stability.
