Nov. 29, 2005 — The nation is now wrapping up the 11th year of a new era of heightened Atlantic hurricane activity (http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/). This era has been unfolding in the Atlantic since 1995, and is expected to continue for the next decade or perhaps longer. NOAA (http://www.noaa.gov/) attributes this increased activity to natural occurring cycles in tropical climate patterns near the equator. These cycles, called “the tropical multi-decadal signal,” typically last several decades (20 to 30 years or even longer).

~snippet 2~
NOAA research shows that the tropical multi-decadal signal is causing the increased Atlantic hurricane activity since 1995, and is not related to greenhouse warming

Just read an article yesterday that is has not yet been decided whether to rebuild the levees around New Orleans to Cat. 4 or 5 status-----initial estimates on cost and time are several billion dollars and 20 to 30 years to complete the job. If I was a refugee from N.O. I certainly wouldn't be moving back.

Is this going to be like the post-depression make-work jobs?
Can Haliburton handle Iraq and that too?
Bush can finish the wall between USA and Mexico, and if that works, build the levees the same way.

When the storm hit, I was thinking (no lie), that they should have houses built on pontoons, with a steel beam sunk deep into the ground, attached to the corners of the house. The house would be attached to "sliders" on the beam, making it able to rise with the water.

Then I found out that they have a similar problem in the Netherlands, with a rising sea level. Now I heard a dutch designer has stolen my idea, and is now marketing just such a design. And it's a Big Hit !
I might have to sue .

Aren't oil platforms built that way?
How about issuing each resident a life preserver and an axe?
