Looks like Hoblock is out, but they had to shove him pretty hard before he got the hint: http://news.bloodhorse.com/viewstory.asp?id=31204

For those who know more than I do, is this good or bad for NY racing? Hoblock gave me the impression that he was an obstacle to getting things done. Is Castro a good choice?

I got a letter from him after the NYS senate chairman of the Racing, Gambling and Wagering committee enlisted him to contact me. All he did was cover his ass like a common politically appointed hack on the matters that were raised between me and the chairman. He did nothing to further the matters at hand. He came up with ridiculous excuses and rationizations for why things were in a the state they were, and still are, which comes as no surprise when people like Hobock are at the top of the pyramid. He was Part of the Problem and I am thrilled to see him get pushed overboard. In 20 more years, maybe all the NY establishment that needs to go will be gone. HA. Of course, it will be much too late by then, in the unlikely event it did happen. In many ways, it is too late already. They might as well leave Hoblock in there if they are going to give the job to Castro, another pure political appointment of someone who will not bring one iota of insight or foresight into the racing world.

Coming soon is the collapse of NY's big, fat OTB system. Right under the nose of a whole bunch of useless people sucking up 6 figures out of the obscene addtional 6% that they bleed out of the players.

Goodbye and good-riddance, Hoblock.

Castro is a pure hack -- her only role on the board is to do Pataki's bidding. Her father started the Castro Convertible sofa business (she did TV commercials as a little girl) and I believe she had a failed GOP run for US Senate a while ago (I think against Moynihan).

Interesting infighting amongst the Republicans -- I sure wish I knew who was carrying who's water. (NYRA, Churchill Downs, Magna, casinos, OTBs)

Yeah, she's currently the Parks Commissioner, so it makes perfect sense that she would take over the Racing and Wagering board, right? I mean, it is called Belmont Park. :)
