I was just putting down a few wagers at Sam Houston, and noticed a disturbing message that "D" tracks don't offer rebates. I went to check the track list section on their site, and sure enough no more rebates on any of these tracks. They also decided to lower the max payouts to 3K per race. I believe these limits had previously been a minimum of 10K.

Considering that most of the tracks I play are smaller, I will be moving all of my business back to Pinnacle. I really prefer them anyway, but an extra 1% and higher limits were enticing enough for me to switch to CRIS, even though their interface sucks, and the payoffs are much slower than Pinny.

From what I can tell, this change took place today. I certainly hope this is not a precursor of things to come. Rebates are definitely my drug of choice.

Maybe you are winning too much! Big losers are still needed to make up for the rebates.

Ummm...I believe this statement is entirely FALSE!

How do the online betting services make their profit? Ads?

To clarify, I am talking about the pari-mutuel rebate shops, not the bookie types. I'm not sure which type BetCRIS is.....

BetCris initially books all wagers, but surely if they tab you as a winner that money will end up in the pool. I have a feeling that most of their larger players are probably net winners, especially when you figure the rebates. They always had good limits on the smaller tracks, but obviously they must be getting smoked since they lowered the limits and yanked the rebates.

I was personally hoping that we would see some growth in the number of offshore casinos that offer rebates. It's becoming painfully obvious this is unlikely to happen. The bottom line is there is less and less interest in horse racing each passing year, and this trend seems certain to continue. I'm just going to try to enjoy it while it lasts.

I wish that was the case Ken......I actually just opened my account last week on the advice of another PA member. You are probably right about their need for losers. All of the part-time horseplayers I know generally just prefer to go to the track or OTB. It would be interesting to know what they handle on the horses, and what sort of P/L they have.

"Rebates are definitely my drug of choice."
After your last post I went back and reread this! Makes sense more now!LOL!
To profit you must do 5% better than the break-even point, including rebates if applicable.
You are saving the cost of going to the track plus the rebate.
Review your betting wins and losses and decide which 10% less bets to make. Decide on type and purse level of races you do worst at. Stop the bleeding first!
If you take more than 30 seconds after handicapping to decide whether or not to bet the race, bet $1-2 only.
