Computer betting with, whomever...

This past Saturday I was playing Hollywood at home on You Bet and CBS was televising LIVE races from Hp and CD. I had the video feed ON from YB and was watching CBS live feed on TV. The You Bet feed went off at least 60-seconds BEHIND the CBS broadcast.

I checked with YB and they do not delay the simulcast feed but it may go OFF LATE due to Internet traffic!!

Interesting if you give that some thought. I assume YB was giving me the straight scoop.

Streaming video will be delayed just because it is streaming video. The slower the transmission speed of the stream, the more delay. When I have Hollywood on TVG and also on the Internet via PhoneBet TV, the delay on the internet version is about 15 to 20 seconds. I have a broadband (DSL) connection so I'm able to get the fastest stream that they offer.

Even if you are getting the broadband feed direct from a track's web site (such as Santa Anita) there will be a delay when compared to the live, over-the-air, feed. About 4 to 5 seconds in the case of SA.

We have tested the Philly Park replays using a telephone link to someone watching the races live on cable back in Philly. The typical delay seems to be as Richard suggested... 20-30 seconds.

I've seen some feeds be as much as 4 minutes behind.

Are you going to attend the races tomorrow night at Lone Star?
I sure wish I could be there.
I'd like to see Chris McCarron compete, plus, I really like your track there. I have never been, but it sure seems a great place to bet.
I will be watching on TVG.:)

I like collecting autographs at the jockey competition, but I don't think I'll be able to get away from work early enough tomorrow.

Lone Star is a beautiful facility, but I'd rather go to the dentist. The smoke, the drunks, the loud music, the obnoxius employees, the high prices, the long lines. Did I mention the obnoxious employees and the high prices?

A few years ago, I got the poster signed by all twelve jockeys and framed it. I also got to go to the luncheon and talked briefly with some of the jockeys -- Desormeaux, Day, etc. Among the jockeys signing the poster was Chris Antley, which makes it pretty special now.

I'll probably watch it on TVG, too.

My wife wants to go to LS tonight, so we're going. Gotta get a shirt so everyone will know, been there...

Do any of you watch the races from a Satellite dish? Which one does the best job and which service offers the best price?

Thanks.

What are you looking to see? Are you just wanting to watch the races as an entertaining adjunct to your wagering experience? Or, are you trying to see whether to wager on a particular horse?

I have TVG through Dish Network and I really like being able to see the races, but their pre-race coverage isn't consistent or extensive enough for me to be able to depend on seeing what a horse looks like. Sometimes all they do is show the stretch run of a race that was going off at the same time as another race.

Damn it, I didn't get to see the Lone Star races last night.
Fox Sports 2 cut in with another program, women's basketball, I think.
If I had known that, I'd have gone to Hollywood Park and watched it.

When I was watching the jockeys, I thought to myself, you know, great people have great and unique attributes. Assuming you could ignore their being vertically challenged, if you met any of these guys on the street, you would recognize them as being successful at something, even if you didn't know what it was.

Their coverage down right sucks sometimes. But for the price, you cannot beat it. This new facination with Quarter Horse racing at Los Alamitos is pissing me off. They almost doubled the Los Al handle in the first two weeks of "extra Coverage" so they turned it into a full blown show, or event 3-4 nights a week. It bores me to tears. The harness stuff is boring too. But if you watch long enough you will learn something from a couple of the guys. The pretty faces are not the best handicappers at all. They have some guys who used to be racing secretaries etc, in the off nights. You can email them and they will answer your questions right on the air. Sometimes they will email you back with info that can be down right handy. They also have a few that speak in a way that you begin to learn to read between the lines. They are barred from saying that they have inside info. But sometimes if you listen to the right guy, and hear what he is saying between the lines, you can make a nice score. Trainer Frank Lyons comes to mind when it comes to between the lines types. He will often pick a low price horse but right before they go off he drops a small tidbit about a longshot. You have to listen close and get used to them. The other options (Magna) are just way too expensive for what you get, in my opinion. I have a cable modem so I can afford to be choosy. I can watch just about anything I want online.

The delay is nice to know. In the past, I have been shut-out even thought the video showed them just entering the gate. I thought it was the betting service. Maybe it is lag.

There is always a delay with video.

I have no problems betting at 1 MTP or right after the first "Post Time" flash on the RacingChannel toteboard usually...

I watched a race Saturday that was 20 minutes behind real time!
