I know I'm out of touch, but when did they start the "highlights" with Tim McGraw? Bad country music ... yes, I figure there IS any other kind,; there must be ... with "lyrics" customized to the day's events. And the music is just bad enough, just far enough below mediocre, just "young country" enough to maybe win a Grammy, in some special made-up category. Kinda like a country version of the crap Santana put out these days.
Howard Cosell was NEVER this bad. Are you ready for some FOOTBALL? Uh, I guess not, actually.

hey toe......... you miss it on this one. That song was a huge hit..........why don't you enlighten us as to what you consider decent music......? BTW, I am not a Tim Mcgraw fan at all. But I don't think you can bust his chops for the kind of success he has had................

All I Want is a 1995 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1995) album by country singer Tim McGraw (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_McGraw). "All I Want" released in 1995 continued his run of success debuting at number one on the country charts. The album sold over two million copies and reached top 5 on the Billboard 200. "I Like It, I Love It" reached number one on the country charts as the leadoff single while "She Never Lets It Go to Her Heart" also went to number one in 1996. "Can't Really Be Gone" reached number two and "All I Want is a Life" and "Maybe We Should Just Sleep On It" reaching top 5.

Yeah, this guy is big....but I'm with toe...it still sucked. I'm tired of this whole country music/wholesome image for football thing. Now if it was good country like Johnny Cash, then maybe I wouldn't mind so much......

Ralph,

I do NOT mean this in a snide, flippant way, but I can't think of another way, so here goes.

Kiddie porn is through the roof, huge profits and good prospects for the future.
Death and destruction, complete with film at 11:00, rule the television news roost. "Music," booming through car woofers and felt blocks away, even when the "melody" is inaudible (thank GOD!!!!), makes serious dough for its "composers" every time a white boy buys a disc. Pirated movies are flying off the shelves of stores throughout China. They're HUGE !! Businessmen are forcing out their partners and scamming the I.R.S. nationwide. Very popular gimmick, as is auto insurance fraud, hurricane relief fraud, etc. However, popular, hot, etc., none of it is 1) a good way to live, and treat people, or 2) necessarily worth a sh*t musically or artistically. Why is the debate never about, "Well, Tim McGraw spent years at Juilliard perfecting the Carter Strum, worked as a composer with Jerry Reed, studied voice with Boxcar Willie, etc.?" Adolph Hitler was absolutely HUGE in Germany once. Now, the song was horrible, and it's even more discouraging to know it's not even original. I guess he thinks that would be too much for his fans watching the game? Something bad, but at least original?

If TM is the equivalent of a horse you bet on, don't be offended that I was underwhelmed by his song. He doesn't need anything from us. He'll be fine.

One quick example of a song I can stand, yet its wild popularity proves that it's no masterpiece for the ages. That frigid woman's lament, "Don't Know Why I Didn't Come," by Norah Jones. Now, I can't listen to much on that album, but the smash hit has one thing going for it --- she sells it. She gets it across, despite the alarmingly affected voice she uses. Many singers think they need that kind of thing. It's a very average, simple song, but she manages to get it across in a way that the New Country bombasts will never be able to. They don't give a s#*t, and I understand, as how could they? Mediocrity sells bigtime, and who better to purvey it than someone already hugely successful, who can keep cranking them out as if he needed the money? It's a gold mine as long as his fans don't have to do anything more strenuous than identify with him. The Rolling Stones are SO guilty of this. Another horribly mediocre aggregation are(is?) Santana. The Grammy-winning album from last year was SO bad, it just had to win what, 8 or 9 prizes?

It's great that you know what you like, JR. Many people don't. I just couldn't stand for that debasement of that already benighted institution, American football. Why must the broadcasters wrap everything up in a mythic Mom-and-apple-pie-god-bless-America-I-love-this-game-support-our-troops package when it comes to sports? I heard George Carlin talking about the spoon-feeding of our sports heroes to us, as if we couldn't figure out the ones we wanted to root for. His examples were Tiger Woods and Lance Armstrong, but it goes deeper than that. They'll try to sell us anybody. If Terrell Owens, a truly miserable human being that no one should have to root for OR AGAINST, were to score 7 TD's in a game, he would be hailed as the greatest, most misunderstood, up-by-his-bootstraps athlete of all times. Ron Artest? Maybe he'll go to prison, make a comeback, win a championship, and then HE'LL be the greatest ever.

And when did country and western get baptized as America's official musical idiom, anyway? Are we so buttoned down, whittled down and dumbed down that that's supposed to be us? At least we can look forward to rap fans outgrowing it, right?

We should be thankful that every horse race is a completely original production. It really is. Not always watchable or bettable, but always original.

Sorry for the inattention. I now read that you are NOT a fan. Nothing wrong with either stand, of course. Of course I'm happy for the guy. Now for the real dirt: what is up with Kenny Chesney? What tales could RZell tell? Who in his right mind could care? Well, these guys need us to care, don't they? I'm tryin' to.
